Used TL pricing
First post Though I've been lurking for more than a year
Anyway, I've been searching through old threads for prices of used TLs, and I realized that prices fluctuate a lot. I've seen people buy 05's w/ Navi, low mileage (less than 50k) at maybe $17k or so, yet when I look on the internet, its almost impossible to find a price like that (theyre about 19.5k or so). Now since this is gonna be my first car, (yes, spoiled i know just something about the TL I really like) I was wondering what exactly are people paying for 05 TLs? Or better yet, what should I expect to pay?

Traveling the country
Got my 04 6 spd A-spec for 13K with 64K on it.
When searching check other large cities that would be witing 3-4 hours of driving, some cities are quite a bit cheaper than others.

06, I'd say that's a really good deal. Was that a private party sale?

I would suggest that you don't let a low price blind you to other problems the car may have.
When I bought my used TL, I looked at all 3G TLs I could find for sale within about 100 kms that were under 20k, and I could've bought a "better" one than mine for less than what I paid, ie I found some that were 6 spd (mine's auto and I would've prefered manual), some that had navi (mine doesn't), some that were 05's (mine's an 04), even one that had less mileage than mine did (but I thought I heard a strange knocking sound). I passed on all of those and paid more for my "worse" TL because I thought it was the most likely to last me several years with no expensive repairs.
Think about it, is it really worth saving $500 or even $2000 if it means you will have problems later that could make those costs seem like nothing? Bottom line, you get what you pay for. Nine times out of ten if someoen is asking a very low price for a car there's probably something wrong with it. The other 10% you can get lucky and get a great deal but it's a risk.

This 2005 auto with Nav and 33k miles for $18,995 in Santa Clara was about the best deal I could find.

I had them take it to the local Acura dealer to have it checked out and it checked out great. I ended up passing on it as I decided to get an '07. that was Friday last week. Don't know if it's still available.

I've been looking for hard for about a month and finally bought a 2007 Type-S today. But earlier in my search, I was looking for an early model 3G and had set a budget of $20k and wanted to find something with under 40k miles.

Hello everyone, new member here.
I just bought my TL last week so I thought I pitch in on the subject. I just bought a 6-speed 2006 base TL with 39k miles for 18,900. I shopped around and I thought it was one of the best deals around.

Good Info
Hey guys, new here, been an admirer of Acura for years now, I'm going to trade in my '03 Accord V6 for a TL, just trying to catch up on research. This is good info you've posted, I'm going to have to read up some more on Type S, A-Spec ect... I'm somewhat familiar with those models on the RSX, I'm guessing it's about the same.

Sorry if I'm beating on a dead horse here, I probably should just let this thread die, but I found some interesting information and wanted to see how reliable or realistic is was from you guy's point of view.
Does this seem realistic? The TL I have my eye on has an asking price of $19,595, in which after going through this formula equates to be about $18,720. I also read from that thread that you can pretty much knock 10% off the asking price right away, which equates to about $17,635.
Here's the link, if anyone's interested: https://acurazine.com/forums/newrepl...eply&p=5512528
When shopping for a used car, I look at KBB a little but I really base my price on what the Black Book value is. The reason is that dealers use Black Book over Blue Book because Black Book has a lower trade in value. Thus, it gives a better idea of what they paid for it, though dealer probably paid even less.
I also use the formula below to get a starting negotiating price. First, find out:
1) What is their asking price? We'll call this MSRP.
2) What is the Black Book trade-in value of car in that condition? We'll call this Estimated Invoice.
3) TT (Tax and Tags)
Now, add the Dealer Prep cost (I say $300 tops) to the Estimated Invoice price to get the Estimated True Invoice.
Your Low Ball offer for car = Est. True Invoice + TT - $2000
Your Target Price for car = [(MSRP - Low Ball / 2) + Low Ball]
A good price for the used car is therefore between Target Price and Target Price + $700 or so.... and this includes all taxes and fees.
Anything more than Target Price + $700 or so is too high IMO.
That's how I helped my friend buy a 2004 Honda Odyssey EX with 45,700 miles.
Using the above method, we have:
MSRP = $17,999
Est. Invoice = $14,500
Dealer Prep. = $300
TT = $1221 + $100 ==> $1,321
Est. True Invoice = $14,500 + $300 ==> $14,800
Low Ball = $14,800 + $1,321 - $2000 ==> $14,121
Target Price = [(($17,999 - $14,121)/ 2) + $14,121] ==> $16,060
Good price is between $16,060 and $16,800. He paid $16,450.

I looked at a few dozen TLs before buying my current car. I bought a 2006 Anthracite/Quartz 6MT/NAV car with 35k miles. 100k Acura Certified PreOwned bumper to bumper warranty and new Yokohamas. I paid 23k and I felt I did OK...as I looked for many months and couldn't find a better deal on a 6MT/NAV with <40k miles. Its a spotless lease return, and the lessee had the oil changed every 3k miles. Almost every car near $20k had some issues.

KNOW the car's history before you even start negotiating with the owner or dealership. Pay $23 for 60 days of checking all the VIN's you want. It used to be $25 for 90 days, but seems they've changed it.

Use whats called the "BLACK BOOK" its updated monthly instead of yearly like the kelly blue book. It will give a better accurate price that you should pay. Google 'black book' and it should come up...

When I was searching for my car, I found a 06 TL for 16K..definitely too good to be true. Ran a carfax and found out the car had a salvage title and more goodies you could possibly imagine. I almost wanted to go back and slap the salesmen!

Here in PA an '05 w/o Navi with 50k miles is going for around 18.5k.
I've also been keeping track of various TLs on autotrader.com and they don't appear to be flying out the door and every two weeks, the prices drop at least $500.

getting close - any advice
Didn't want to start a new thread for a similar topic, so I'll just used this old one instead.
I've emailed a few dealers regarding 05 and 06 TLs, all under 50k miles. The one I have my eye on is an 06, about 41k miles, navi, clean carfax. Their asking price is $19.9k, which is out of my range, so I'm not sure how much I should offer them.
Another deal, this one with a private party, caught my eye. The price is $16k obo, 63k miles, navi and chrome stockies, if you consider that a bonus. Carfax checks out just fine, but I wondering which of the deals you guys think is better. Heres a picture of the private sale.
I noticed the wheels are missing center caps, anything I should look into? Do chrome stock wheels come with different center caps?
