Upgrading to a new 08 TL-S!

Hey guys,

Well, I think I may upgrade to a 2008 Acura TL Type S. I had my paid off 2007 Acura TSX (CGP) w/ Navi in at the local dealership yesterday to have some routine maintenace done. Anyway, while there, I saw an absolutely GORGEOUS Black 08 TL-S auto! The car has the following:

46k miles
certified to 100k

Acura wants $23k for it.

I have a PAID OFF 2007 TSX with navi with 39k miles. The car is in excellent condition...

Any idea what I could get for my car on a trade? Thinking I could trade in my TSX, then just pay cash for the difference between the TSX and TL price.

Well, I'm going to head back to the dealership tonight to take it out for a spin!

Thanks guys!

Jeff

The TL is a great car you'll love it. Why not sell your car private sale you'll make more money that way. IMO if I had a PAID OFF 07 TSX tech I'd keep that but hey, thats just me lol

^Agreed. The only problem with that is finding a buyer for the TSX before the TL-S sells.

I guess my question is.... is the TL-S a HUGE improvement over the TSX tech? I love the looks of the 3rd gen TL's, and I've always wanted a TYPE S. However, I do love my TSX as well. Ugh, touch choices!

Go for it ... Im assuming you have owned the TSX 3 or 5 years .. Time for a change.... You will be amazed by the difference in performance .. but first of all ... check your finances ...

I love my TSX, but the 3rd gen TL's are just so awesome looking! Plus, I've always wanted a TYPE S

Anyway, what are some of the problematic areas on the 08 TL's? Specifically the TYPE S model.

Thanks!

Don't get the TL Type-S, get a Genesis Coupe instead.

Heh, all joking aside, I wouldn't get a black Type-S, try looking for another car. I've seen many Black TL type-S, almost every NY AZiner drives a black car, and the paint quality degrades over time and you end up with a lot of fine scratches. Try looking for CBP, it hides dirt and scratches real well.

If your talking luxuries, the TSX tech has just about everything that the TL has. Besides back up camera I think. But as far as size and speed, the TL has the edge on that. Me personally, I don't see it as that much of a big upgrade...

How is the fuel economy on the TYPE S? I know that my TSX Tech's is great! That is one part I would definitely miss if I were to upgrade.

Anyway, what were some problems that you've had with your TL-S? I'm still on the fence on what I want to do...

I get 22-23 mpg highway and city. pure city, like stop and go traffic will get you like 12 mpg. Pure highway will get you 30 mpg. Problems, the power steering whines when its cold sometimes you just need a cheap gasket to fix that. The brake pads on the brembos need to be replaced pretty often, like every 25,000 miles or so. Pressure switches on the tranny known to go bad, pretty easy to replace. and cheap. Make sure you get Redline Tranny fluid not the Acura crap. Leather is on the cheap side. Rattles. Other than that nothing! Just make sure you get it checked out by a mechanic. And be sure if the TL is what you really want...its a good car don't get me wrong, but I personally don't see it as that much of an upgrade..

I think it's just fair---19 mpg/city and 22/23 mpg highway with premium fuel.

My fuel economy on my 07 TL-S is about 18 pure city driving and close to 30 on the highway if I keep a light foot.

As for the upgrade I think you'll find the dealer is going to make out like a bandit. The money delta might make you keep the TSX.

I can't comment on the actual upgrade because I've never driven a TSX.

An extended test drive might help you figure out whether the "upgrade" is worth the cash.

With the TL your getting more power and performance with less MPGs than the TSX. It's what matters to you more. I like the way the TSX looks a lot and I own a TL! Haha.

And to the person saying black fades. Not exactly. If you take care of it wax it and use the right microfiber towels the paint looks great. I've owned 2 black TL's now and it's all about waxing and keeping up. And in terms of the leather, yeah it's not the best in the world. And it also depends if you garage your car or not.

Either way, take her for a drive you wont be disappointed by the power difference.
