Under-hood light??

I'm usually not one to bitch, but how can a $35K car not have a light under the hood? Has any-one installed a light under the hood??

I'm just curious how many <35K cars have lights under the hood? I had a 1984 Toyota Supra with one but that was a long time ago and I haven't had a light since. Does the Mercedes E-class have a light? or a Lexus ES?

I can't imagine what good it would do to have a small underhood light. There's one under the hood of my ford ranger, other than to possibly see if the engine hasn't fallen out, it's useless at night. If I'm going to be working under the hood after dark, I'll be getting out the dual halogen worklamps. just my .02

Why would you need one? I doubt most people do car maintenance in the dark. Besides, it's not like it was years ago when you had to routinely check battery acid levels, radiator fluid, oil level, etc.

I'd say that most of TL owners are not like us. Most probably don't even know how to open the hood. Even if they do, they'd look at all those covers and give up.

simple reason why there is no light, you are not supposed to be messing around in there in the dark. You should be in a well lighted area with a protable light to see everything.

Guys, come on. I'm a mechanic. I pop the hood if I hear a funny noise, or wanna check my oil. I just think it's ridiculous that my 91 Escort I had had one, and my 07 TL-S s doesn't.

I agree with TLAdvanced. What if you're on the road and something happens. Wouldnt you wanna pop the hood and see whats going on?

In Canada, Radio Shack got bought and turned to "The Source"... But hahah funny you mention that because when I was installing my CAI+TBS/G.. it got dark and the only lighting I had to use, to finish, was my friend's led light keychain---until my neighboor came with work-lamps.

It's funny that this thread came up... because my 89 Cutlass Supreme came with an under-hood light---there is even a dial where you can then set how long you want it on for [if it's not automatically on]. Upgrade that to a few bright leds and you can see everything clearly!

But that's why a flashlight in the glove compartment is a good idea.

Well, the car shouldn't break down, and if it does, my butler can drive it to my mechanic's shop, or call the Auto Club to have it towed.

Otherwise, I pull the little lever thingee in the driver's footwell, push the front cover of the car up and stare at all the black plastic stuff under the metal hatch while using my trustee xenon flashlight that is in the lower armrest compartment to see if there is any sign that the motor blowed up...

Agreed, I just think it's shitty Acura didn't hook us up. You know a lot of BMW's came with a little BMW flashlight in the glovebox that also charged there...

Perhaps because some BMW's have a reputation for having the hood open more than closed once they hit that magic 50K mile mark? But at least I know why they're charging $10K+ more for their cars!

j/k -- I have a strong suspicion that my next car will be a 335 or 535.

i dont think alot of cars now adays even have an under hood light...1. it usually got so hot under the hood...the light wouldn't work any way....and 2. the light didn't do much when it did work.....it was something that shouldn't have been invented, kinda of like the show "pimp my ride"...somethings in life we're better off with out...

Generally speaking i think that car companies assume any mechanic worth his salt will have tools.

He will probably also have a light

to use said tools.

That being said-there are a few things that i bitch about on the car that are meaninless too...

[and the same people that gave us] ... a tape deck

but

TLs don't break down.. why would you need one?!

I think the only car i've had that had a light under the hood was my 89 ford probe.. they probably should have included an engine hoist and rachet set as well.

Basically the relationship is that I thought the same thing....I have had cheaper cars that came with ash trays and lighters and was kinda suprised this one doesnt come with it standard, kinda like the underhood light.

And yes....unfortunately I smoke in my car. Sad fact.
