Talking Ultimate Pedals- Pics and Questions

Well I finally just figured I would spend the money and order a set of pedals from Ultimate Pedals for my TL. The blacks pedals are okay but I like pedals that stand out.

In any case, here are some pics. I went with the smooth finish which I don't think I've seen very many pics of here on the site. They look extemely well made and are pretty thick. Definitely feels like a quality product.

For those of you guys who have installed them, on which pedals did you use the self-tapping screws and on which did you use the flat ones?

Also, do I really need that tool they say to make the dimple?

I'm looking forward to finals ending so I can get home and install them.

Hey, question for you....does the gas pedal install on top of the existing rubber pedal? For some reason I thought I saw something that this is how it works...does it still end up looking decent?

when you get your questions answered and install this, you will have to let us know if these pedals slip at all (ie: if you have flat shoes on, are barefoot, or your shoes are wet from rain)

Oh thanks for the link willz. When I get to the install I'll take pics and report if they cause too much slipping.

Willz- I was going to get the rubber inserts but I saw a picture of them with them installed and there are just so many holes that when you fill them up, I didn't like how they looked. My TT and 350Z had aluminum pedals with rubber inserts from the factory and they slipped on occasion depending on what I was wearing. I don't think these should be any worse than the stock pedals.

Well my concern would be the brake / clutch. Other sites, and Utilmate too recommends that it's ok to have a smooth gas pedal since you want precision control. On brakes / clutch pedals though, I was reading that the prevailing wisdom from the race world is you want grip above all else due to the demands of better / increased foot work needed to really drive the car hard, therefore the textured pedals with/without the rubber inserts are strongly suggested.

I really like the looks of the smooth ones but I'm thinking personally of going with a smooth gas pedal similar to yours, a "rough" brake pedal (I have an AT)...and a smooth driver footrest plate. I'm thinking of the satin finish to match the rest of the TL trim but with the rubber inserts possibly in all 3...also..Ultimate will engrave a "TL" in any pedal for you... I was thinking the footrest would look cool for that.

Any thoughts?

Does it look bad though if the gas pedal is just sitting on top of the existing rubber pedal? I thought these replaced the whole thing actually...and it doesn't on the accelerator.. anyone have them installed?

You couldn't tell from the pics in the link from my previous post? Doesn't look that bad at all.

The brake and clutch pedals do not go over the rubber pedals. You take the rubber parts off before installing. I think it's the same for the gas pedal.

I know the foot rest does go on top of the robber one though.

Just checked their website. For the brake and clutch, you remove the rubber before installing the pedals. As for the gas, it goes directly over. You do not need to remove the rubber part.

I highly recommend these pedals. I have the anti-slip ones and they grip really well. You remove the rubber from the brake pedal and not the gas or dead pedal.

I'm be interested if a group buy happens and it's 30% off again. $141 shipped is somehow quite a bit more palatable than $200 shipped.

Thumbs up

i have the same pedals installed in my at. the dimple tools is most recomended the metal the pedals are made out of is very hard , i suggest you get the dimple tool, mark the spot .then drill a pilot hole with a smaller bit then follow with the correct sized one. marking the whole is the most important step in this installation, otherwise you'll have a crooked pedal, get the tool!

Ok, first of all, the dimple tool is definetly reccomended. Makes it a lot easier. Secondly, When drilling the holes, just do one at a time and after every hole make sure the pedal is still lined up and the bolts go in easy.

Though one pedal looks like it is at an angle, I lined it up perfectly and its just the case that the clutch pedal is at a different height than the brake. Once tightened, the pedals don't move at all and fit like they were from the factory. Also, before drilling, decide where you want the holes and make sure you have clearance in the back. I didn't and ended up changing which way I wanted to put the screws on the brake/clutch pedals so i drilled an extra hole for nothing, though thankfully its not a visible mistake.

Here are pics I took during the install:

The foot rest and the accelerator are the easiest. You can do them both in 2 minutes, seriously. Just drill straight into the plastic.

For the other two pedals, I used a silver sharpie to mark the points because I didnt have masking tape though it would be a lot easier with the tape. IN the bottom left corner you can see the small hole I drilled. I started off with a small drill and gradually went up in size until I got to the largest size Ultimate Pedals recommends.

Finally, here they are installed (without my floor mats so its a mess).

How they look from the outside.

Seriously, looks wise, these pedals look great in person. They make the interior look much much nicer. The fit and finish is great and the install is a lot easier than I imagined.

Once I get more time driving with them in the rain and what not I'll report back to see if they are slippery though from handling them and the rubber ones, I can't imagine them being worse. They seem about on par with the rubber ones and don't have the ugly box pattern of the anti-slip pedals they sell.

Go buy a set people!

Yea the price is a little hard to stomach but mine were $140 something so with a 30% discount it would get it down to a $100 and that just makes them even better.

Silverstone,
Please some time driving around in different shoes (specifically hardsole "suit shoes").

Those look great...

I really am not fond of the rubber inserts, and am considering ordering exactly your set, they seem to match best.

I'm curious if you experience any slipping, given UP strongly advises against getting the satin smooth without rubber inserts.

I really like the smooth finish but I was hesitant to get that finish because of the potential for being slippery when wet and i didn't care at all for the rubber inserts I'll be interested to see how they perform for you.

Great mod... , two things, did the gropubuy end??...and aren't you afraid of scratches?...I work for a worldwide elevator company and see my share of "faceplates" used on the panels where the buttons are located inside the elevator and see that with little effort you can make a mark even with you nails, therefore in the Winter if I happen to get in the car after walking on mud I can imagine the finish on the pedals after one season so I would go with the non slip pedals if the price was right.......

The reading is fundamental crowd is back, I see...max discount is 20% (and this was reiterated in the GB thread by UP).

HEK - that set is $186 (from what I can tell) sans any discount, so figure $168, $158, or $149 + shipping ($12 or so), depending on how many people get in on the deal. Helping out is they are including CL and TSX pedals in the GB.

HEK, I'm going to charge you next time you use my pic.

It's a great product I'm enjoying it for over an year and a half. I'm thinking of getting rubber inserets for my pedals.

Hey Silverstone,
Any feedback on the satin finish pedals and the "slipperiness warning"... I prefer the look of the satin finish pedals without the rubber knobs as well.
Whaddaya think?

So what does everyone think about the engraving? I was wondering if it would be worth it to engrave the footrest AND the accelerator.... Any thoughts?

Oh yeah, if i call and order, how do they know how much to charge me when they dont know how many people are going to order...
