I have a 2007 ua7 and I was wondering if any one also has a 3rd gen type s that runs e85, and knows what needs to be done, if it's worth it, what are the down falls, and how much it might cost.
E85 has better cooling properties and "higher" octane than E10. It improves "efficiency" by around 1% but requires nearly double the volume of fuel delivery, essentially your MPG will drop by 1/2 and your fuel pump is going to be working harder along with injectors. E85 is much more corrosive and can damage fuel system components and possibly your engine if it was not designed with E85 in mind.
Factory fuel pump, rails and injectors can't deliver enough cc's of fuel if you use E85 on the TL. Even the BMW 335 (E9X) requires 50:50 E10 Premium to E85 with a custom tune, and that's maxing out the fuel injectors.
With no turbo or S/C, you honestly are going to have a lot of trouble and no gain in any sort of way.
If you have turbo or S/C, you can easily add 100WHP tuning with E85, just have to make sure you edit the tables on your tune to deliver a lot more fuel.
