Type S spoiler, trunk springs.

I think I have read somewhere about people having issues with their base model TLs after installing Type S deck lid spoiler. Apparently the trunk doesnt open properly after the install due to the added weight of the spoiler.

I recently bought a deck lid spoiler from bforbrian and needed the necessary bits to install it. Now, after I placed the order for the parts I realized that I would only need a few bolts etc but when the parts showed up they had two long springs included with the kit. A quick search of the parts data base and here is what I found, the springs are not installed on the 04-06 models and would need to be installed so that the trunk opens after pressing the trunk lid button.

Here is what everything looks like.

Part # 10 and 11

2006 Deck lid parts

2007 Deck lid parts

I havent inspected my 06 yet to see if indeed the springs would fit but I am pretty sure they would and will take care of trunk issue.

Here is what everything looks like, the spoiler I got is used and will need some new replacement padding around the edges before the install.

Here is what all the hardware looks like plus the newly painted RRP spoiler.

BTW, I just noticed that the 06 has part # 14 installed (DAMPER, TRUNK DYNAMIC) and the 07 doesnt so that means that the damper is replaced with the springs

I have a TL-S, and let me tell you something, that trunk does not open, period, there is a crack, and then I have to wiggle my finger into open it... I've cursed everytime I come from a large shopping carrying bags... In this case, I miss my FX.

Thank you for the above update But what are my options?

you need to buy the upgraded springs that come with the 04-08 TL WING SPOILER, those are a bit better than the factory ones.

I added the wing spoiler to my TL and the kit came with new, stiffer springs. My local body shop wanted 200$ to do the spring swap out.. well, I found where I could buy the special spring tool and did the job myself for under 25$.

The trunk does open with the remote about an inch.... sometimes

Since I already have the springs with me ($10 a pair) I am going to go ahead and install them, what tool is that you mentioned in your post?

I find it EXTREMELY stupid there is a specific tool required for such an obscure part. Was it really necessary on Acura's part to make it a bitch? I would have done this a long time ago but getting that tool is what makes me lazy

I believe the tool is necessary because the spring needs to be installed with more tension than the power of your bare hands can muster up.

I've got a rear wing spoiler and the entire lid is covered in Dynamat. When I hit my trunk button all i hear is a "click" and I have to reach down and lift it. it doesn't budge when I release the latch.

yes, those springs have enough tension on them when they are installed to damage a few fingers pretty well...

I got 2003 Acura CL-S, and installed trunk Spoiler. The original trunk springs are NOT strong enough to hold the trunk now. It is very annoying. I am looking for the stronger springs but it usually comes with accessories of OEM spoilder, which is quoted for $600 from dealer.
Could you please help me out here to find a TL or CL spoiler trunk springs?
