Type-S Production Numbers

Speaking purely from experience as an IT consultant seeing many companies and how they utilize sales and production data, they definitely have the numbers.
auto companies are like any other major company that manufactures and sells products - they have databases that store all of that information.
It is required for them to store that kind of data for marketing purposes and making future design and manufacturing decisions that are informed - color, trim level, transmission type, etc. are all stored in a database somewhere at Honda Motor Corp.
The bigger reason that you and I can't get to the numbers is that they were never published anywhere publicly (and why would they, really? other than to satisfy an enthusiast group like us) and that data is probably only seen with internal reporting at the company over at Corporate.

I think if we hound them enough the info will come out.

I agree with the posters above. Internally, they HAVE to know the production numbers. Acura Client Services feeds us the sales numbers so it seems we'd need to go above them to get some insight. However, I don't see that happening so we're probably on our own with this like the NSX guys.
Where do we stand with collecting VINs? That might be our only hope now
I would never settle for an automatic...I couldn't stand the thought of not rowing my own gears

here's thought...anyone know that tyson guy with the 500k mi legend??? he's been rubbing elbows with a few acura execs since his "fame" with his legend (which is clean as can be).
the info we seek is really just for the higher ups to track everything (what works, what people liked etc). it's on a need to know basis and the public simply doesn't need to know (our curiosity would like to be satisfied, but that's about it).
maybe 20 yrs from now they might release that info or never.
the only thing we know...6MT in the 3G TL...rare beast (makes me even more compelled to hang on to mine for a long time, esp as the OG). how many here on AZ have one? i'm sure the 4G TL MT stats are just as rare.

it's a car-drive it
my next door neighbors in NC are owners of 2 3rd gen. TL,s with MT. When I was getting my tsx serviced in May 09 at acura of reno they told me my color combo with 6MT and nav was extremely rare. They never could get one.

I'm with Chris on this one - keep sending emails to show continued interest in the topic.
Even if they don't give us the numbers now, perhaps one day it will give them incentive to include the numbers in a book written about the TL.
It doesn't take much time to fire off a quick email to Acura. It's probably the most we can do to try to squeeze info out of them.
although I am intrigued by the idea of trying to get into contact with the 500k mile Legend dude (bribe him with donuts or something....no? Well, I thought it sounded good) and find out if he has any legitimate contacts at Acura that could help with the data we want.

there is a thread on here about tyson and his 500k mi legend. so he is a member here on AZ. the thread is like 20 pages long....i think the title is 474k mi and still going...something like that. he hit 500k last summer/fall. he was able to see the acura/honda museum in torrance and he went to the unveiling of the NSX, RDX and ILX (press day) at the Detroit intern'l auto show. rubbing elbows with execs...

Tyson actually belong to former Acura-legend.com forum member (now transferring to Acuralegend.org, I knew him for quite sometime now, at first I remembered his 95 Legend LS coupe 6spd MT top out at 212k miles lol (back in 05). He then bought a 94 GS MT at 242k miles then totaled by hitting a deer then got another GS 6spd MT (that guy is MT maniac). Lets me see if I can contact him through the previous forum.

see....hush hush. its the honda way. it is silly, but i'm sure they have their reasons. no reason to get fussy, it is what it is.
for now...we can ponder with a rough guesstimate...and go drive our cars!!!
for those with a MT....be honored. for those with a type-s and a MT...be even more honored you have a RARE bird. take care of them and they'll take care of you!!
i'll be keeping my 6MT until the end!! woo hoo!!! unless an NSX is offered to me...then that might be a different story.

I did a search for all 07-08 Type-S for sale within 500 miles of me ( North of Chicago) for under $24,000. Out of 30 Type-S, only 3 are manuals (10%)
I just test drove an NBP Manual with light grey leather that had 72k miles, mint in and out, drove like New. $21,000. This 30 car search had 2-MRP, 3-KBP, 4-WDP, 6-ASM, 6-CBP, and the rest were NBP. The only 3 manuals were, 2-NBP, 1-CBP.
I see MANY 04-08 Base TL's near me, but only about 10 07-08 Type-S. They are very rare, and I live in a highly populated area.

Here in this area I have seen about 10...However on my way into work I saw a fake TL Type-S...Give away was no brembos, base rear bumper, base exhaust, and the Type-S was crooked...

I own a 08 6mt type-s, can I get on the list? and I know my car is rare, but surprisingly neighbor at my apartments in 2010 had another nbp 6mt type-s as well! His designated parking spot was right next to mine too, ironically. He was 07 though (darker wheels) and i belueve bone stock. Didnt even have tint lol. If you're on here let me know! Cedar Creek in Irvine!

Well the vin decoding only works if we had EVERY TL vin and that would only tell us its a Type-S...No distinction on color...So Yea honda pretty much shut us down from knowing...

FWIW I have an '07 KBP Type-S 6MT with tan interior, and the 1st time I brought it to Springfield Acura for service (about 2 years ago), the tech said that it was the only 6MT KBP he's ever seen come in to the shop.

Oddly enough I've been seeing a lot more Type-S's running around lately. No clue about 5AT vs. 6MT, but I've been seeing 2-3 per week since the month started. Of those, NBP and CBP have been the dominant colors.

Hmmm this is interesting, I am surprised it is not on the internet.
I was told that they made a 1000 ea year, 07 and 08. I always forget which one is the rarest color but I know it is only in the 08 model which has it, and only 150 from ea year were M/T.
