Hey guys, I'm recently looking into purchasing a brand new TL Type-S.. Here's the ONLY dilemma, I HATE, and I mean, I HATE the red lighting inside the Type-S. It's just my preference, I loveeee the blue they have in the base TL models. I just don't like that red, seems.. dull.. Are there any TYPE-S's here that have the blue lighting? What to do!! I want the type-s, and i'm dead serious about the only thing setting me back from stashing one inside my garage, is the freaking RED interior lighting!!!

A simple solution would be getting the TL with Navigation. But c'mon.. it's a Type-S =]

 

I hated the red lighting in the Type-S too...but after having it for a month now, I absolutely love it...I wish they were brighter!

I guess you can say it grew on me...plus if you really think about it...its different, ya know? Most other cars have white or blue interior lights.

 

yea. the thing is that not only is it red, it's dull and not bright enough. it's just.. blue and white lighting is much more appealing. like the lexus IS interior..

 

get together with a local base 07-08 and swap it all out... I am sure they'd enjoy the red... everyone is type s crazy lol

dude the red interior is sick!..personally I loved it from the beginging because red is actually one of my favorite color. Im glad its a diffrent color from the base models..Thats why its a TYPE-S!..but I guess eventually u will grow into it..sometimes I think its too bright at night! but that also makes the interior light more sexy

Yeah dude.. get type-s...as much as i love the blue light on the Dashboard and Radio knob..... i ihate the fade green for all the other buttons. Type-s.. Still today I regret not getting one.... I have CGP whihc only comes base... I am sure the reason AL though of me when readin this.. is cause he knows how much I regret not getting one.. and how expensive it has been getting the base to look like one.

 

Don't fight it! Get the TypeS!! Don't worry, you will grow to like the red interior like me. So stealthy looking, like the BatJet in Batman Beyond.

 

I was the same way but it grew on me. Love it now at night!

 

I hated the red when I first saw it, but when I was in the TL-S at night with the red light, I didn't mind it. If you want to have the blue lighting, you would need to have a base 07-08 tl swap parts or buy the 07-08 TL base parts, that would include clock display, HVAC buttons, Guage cluster, radio, upper console lighting, and foot-well lighting. Total cost would be in excess of 2K...

 

2 n a half yrs later... picking up a type-s and i HATE red as well. I have an 05 n love the blue. I have the navi bezel assuming they are PNP with 08's, i dont know why they wouldnt be just HVAC buttons. I can pick up a radio on ebay cheap enough. window control buttons seem easy enough but..

I'm worried about where the milage is stored... cluster or ECU? Ive never read a definitive answer.

Anyone interested doing a swap out, Im down 100%, and since its new to me... i will drive to you lol

 

I am the other way......i hate blue lights with a passion!! so annoying to drive with and distracts my vision of the road. Red doesn't! but its personal preference.... I am hoping to have my TL interior down this week with my red light up doorsills and all red LEDs.... we will see

 

That was my problem, I HATED the red at first wanted blue so bad and was looking to see about switching. Blue is my favorite color so really wanted that but I will say within a week of having the car I fell in love with it. Now im looking to put more red and make some of the red like the footwell a little brighter (not too bright though).

 

Red reminds me of taps at boot camp. Sleeping in the red lights with nicotine withdrawal made for the wierdest dreams ever. Not sure if Ill be able to fall in love after that.

 

haha yes it sucked having nicotine withdrawal sleeping with the red light. (i know what your talking about there) never really reminded me of that though...(im going to hate you if I start thinking about it now when i drive) haha jk but yeah it flows good with the car though, I think you will still fall for it after just shortly driving with it. If not you can always go with the swap with someone who has blue. Make sure you don't have that stop you from getting the car though, its a wonderful car.

BTW red is better for your eyes while driving at night then blue is anyway.

Do you guys like the red with white interiors? The black and red looks way better but leaning towards blue with the white.

I hate the fade green, too. It shoulda been blue. fade green is like every other car interior light color. My favorite color is blue, but for some reason I prefer the type S red color in the odometer. i think i like red cuz the hands on the odometer are red(both trims) so it looks more uniform.

if u like orange, buy a BMW

I love red so much i made my base a type-s "wannabe" by choosing my navigation screen on the red on red color option :-) so at least i have a type-s navigation screen

Wassup guys. After seeing the 2012 TL pics(meh) I decided that I have no interest in the 4th GEN TL. I initially didnt like the TL-S when it came out(the red lights, the two tone seats, the rims)--but about two years ago everything that I disliked I learned to appreciate and love. (except the red lights--I still prefer the blue but not a game changer for me). I am coming from a base TL 6 speed and bought a silver/ebony manual shift TL-S.
I had to drive hours to get it but man was it worth it. This car is awesome and better than my base TL in every way. I do have a couple questions for you guys.
Am I entitled to a updated navigation DVD ?

Shouldn't I be getting a free trial to XM radio free with the car ?

Is the stereo in the TL-S better than the one in the 04 TL ? Seems to be, or perhaps thats just wishful thinking on my behalf.

Some other impressions--
The NAV is way cool and super useful. I still need to learn how to talk to the car. The scren resolution kinda blows but much nicer than having a garmin.


Compared to my 04 manual...the center console compartment (the one under your elbow)seems smaller---is this car the same dimensions as the 04 TL? its not a negative just wondering.


I noticed you have to be a little more deliberate with your shifting otherwise it will pop back into neutral, this is prevalent in 3rd and 4th gear. My 04 never did this.

The seats are more bolstered than my 04 but also seem...*harder*--Not sure if this is just the drivers seat or all around--could be the prior owner was on the heavy side and maybe mushed the seat down a bit, Just wondering if everyone can feel the difference(those of you who went from TL to tl-s.

Overall though, great car, Im very happy with it.

 

^Replace your existing MTF with GM Syncromesh fluid Friction Modified(GMSFM). it will fix your 3rd gear problems...it worked for me and countless others on this forum.

you are not entitled a new navi dvd. you could ask. but like the rest of us, you're gonna have to buy the updates at 200 a pop.

I bought my 08 about a month ago and I got a free 3 month trial of XM w/ Nav traffic for 3 months!

 

Its mostly the camera and the setting i had it on. The door sills look red in person too. Its just the way the old power shot takes the pic. im trying to get a better camera to do better pics

 

I'm trying to get ahold of those lighted door sills...I put my name on the list that's circulating, I have a feeling your familiar with it? Where did you get yours?
