Type-S Headlight Conversion Help
I have an 05 TL and I'm trying to put 07 Type-S headlights on. I know it requires the smaller 06-08 ballasts, but can I use the same ignitor I currently have connected to my 05 ballasts?
Also, anyone know where I can get some ballasts for cheap?

well I don't know the answers to any of your questions, but how much did those type-s headlights cost you? I was going to do the same thing, but dayum those things like 300+ each, not even worth the trouble.

The 1157 sockets can also be bought through the dealer.

Please explain a little more about the 1157 sockets for me... I have an '06 TL with Type-S headlights, but they aren't installed yet. I have switchbacks in my 06 headlights. So does this mean I need to change switchbacks as well?
I don't really get this part of the conversion.

Yes.
04-06 and 07-08 base models have 7443 bulbs since they have a amber diffusor covering the bulb.
The 07-08 Type-S, uses a 1157 bulb since there is no amber diffusor.
It cost more for a 7443 amber bulb than it does 1157. Also if you go to the store and try to buy a 7443 amber bulb you most likely will not be able to find it.

I decided I am going to use my 05 ballasts. What I am going to do is dremel down the area where the 06 ballast will sit, until my 05 ballast sits flush. The hole in both headlights are the same diameter. I will then silicone the hell out of it and then secure it with self- tappers. Trying to find 06 ballasts has been too much drama, and I still don't know if my ignitors would work.
My plan B is an aftermarket HID kit. Ill just silicone the hole on the bottom of the headlight shut. Then drill a hole in the cap that goes behind the HID bulb. I'll put in a rubber grommet and some silicone and mount the ballast somewhere. I'm gonna make this work.

^If it was me then I would stick with OEM. If you decide to start dremeling the headlight housing just make sure the ballast sits as flush as possible with the mounting hole on the headlight. Buy some insulator foam and make your own gaskets for the ballasts. Make a few of them and tighten the ballast to the headlight nice and snug. If any water gets on top of the ballast and leaks in then its toast. The slightest drip that runs down from the top of the headlight and winds up leaking through the opening of the ballast will break it.

I found ballasts on Ebay for $200 shipped for both, and used my original ignitor and it works. Make sure to run LED's in place of DRL's as our halogen lamps will melt the shroud, and I dremeled (sp) down the lamp connection on the 9005 socket an wa-la it worked, had no issues. Also modded the original turn signals to fit into the 07-08 headlights with a little hot-glue and no problems. The 1157 socket I bought didn't fit into the existing harness..

bro if you paid that price for each headlight don't go crazy drilling holes on it just search on ebay for the ballast... ignitor are the same just need to replace ballast cause 04-05 they are a little to big compare to the 06-08 DRLs r find you don't need anything like sockets just buy the 9005 LEDs bulbs or HIDs with that sizes and cut the inside plastic thats all you need for that type of conversion....if you have further questions just let me know ill be happy to answer you good luck....
