Two Taillight Modding Ideas

Idea one:
Was going to change out my taillights for a pair of 07's, but now Im wondering if I can just clear the 2 cleared slots like on the 07's.
I cant figure out how the make up of the 04's are to figure out if this is possible. Maybe someone who has modded the TL-s lights knows if the 04-06's are set up in a way that this mod can be done?

Idea two:
If I can clear the 04's I was also thinking of fully clearing them. Then having the "frame" painted to match my paint. Like the Tails that have been all cleared then left the black frame to match the black cars. Might look good, might not, cant quite picture it. Maybe a photo shop anyone?
-Thanks for any thoughts, -Manach

To really do any modding to the tail lights, you actually have to hack them open with a dremel and then seal them up when you're done with JBWeld and what not. PM UA6Spec because he does that stuff.

Couldn't you just bake the tails and peel 'em open?

Nope...can't bake or shake. Need to dremel it out precisely.

They dont peel open, they have to be cut into with a dremel, which I was aware of.

Actually, you can use Goof Off or similar to break the adhesive that holds the outer lens to the housing. However, I would imagine it would take quite a bit of patience. Both of times I did it to my 04's, I would end up with a crack, splinter, or chip eventually...guess I wasn't patient enough (actually, I'm not patient at all ). That said, cutting them isn't hard at all.

Gotta cut em....

Also 04-06 lens is solid red, so your Idea two does not work.

^^^That's what I did with my donor set (04's). I used a syringe to inject the Goof Off into the crack. The hardest part was getting started (getting the Goof Off under some part of the lense). Once you get a gap that it can get into, it's easy to get more in and the lense comes out easily. Inject some, let it sit, pull a little, inject some more, etc. Once the lense is off, the trim comes out pretty easily from the front side...slides right out with a slight tug. If I had more donor sets, I would've tried a couple of more times to perfect the technique, but the next set that gets opened will be the good ones, so hacked they will be.

You also have to be careful with the type of syringe you use, though, as the Goof Off can crack/break hard plastic ones (el cheapo from the Wally World cooking section). You'll need a glass or soft plastic one. You can find both on eBay. I picked up a lot of ten soft plastic ones that were advertised as being for solder paste. Awesome little syringes, although I'm not sure what I'm going to do with ten of them.

Do you happen to have pictures of the syringe? I think that is very good for injecting those inaccessible area. What I did was I uses JB Weld and then uses toothpick and dab it onto the cracks. It would be a lot easier for me to use if those syringes work well.

There's a pic at the bottom of the listing. The tip (metal, but not a needle) is really small and perfect for very tiny spots.

i tried baking them i tried industrial glue removal shit.... I I believe you have to cut them. I have every last possible glue removal gunk shit possible at my shop. nothing worked.... i used a mini snap-on pneumatic saw to precisely cut them open with minimal gap. afterwards i plastic welded the suckers back together n dumper half a tube of silicon on each light. I wasnt taking risks with fogging up

You need a dremel and a cutting disk to cut it out.

This is what I was looking for^ So they are sold one piece red plastic then. I was hoping it was clear plastic with a red film.

Hmm I wonder if that will work with touch up paint?
