Turn off the Seatbelt alert

Okay, sometimes when I want to take a quick trip to the grocery store down the road, I really do not feel like fastening my seatbelt. My TL constantly reminds me of this - I guess it wants to keep me safe...good car, good car!! Does anyone know to deactivate this feature, or if it is even possible?

Rules of driving:
1) Open the door
2) Sit down
3) Close the door
4) PUT ON SEAT BELT
5) No driving until all occupants are belted
6) NO seat belt NO driving!

Most accidents happen within 4 miles from your home. Its probably a safety feature that you cannot deactivate.

Just so you know, your insurance company will not cover medical injuries if you do not wear your seatbelt. When the airbag goes off, there is an explosion(very very small) that locks the seatbelt in place to ensure it locks and you are held to the seat.

click it or ticket... It takes all of 3 seconds to put on a seatbelt. I know you may not feel like wearing one, but think about your family if you get into an accident. Its easier to put it on in 3 seconds than to deal with stress you family will have in the event something does happen

Pretty sure there is a wire harness under the seat that you can unplug. I did this on a older Honda but i wear my seatbelt now

My 96 Accord had that. I would have to unplug it when I took the seats out. Unfortunately, I don't think it is that simple on the TL. Either buckle up or get used to the chime. Those are your only two options.

the real question is.....

how short is your trip? i mean if it's really short, you shouldn't even be hearing that warning beep. so you got nothing to worry about.

if you hear that beep, that mean your trip is already too long.

who gives a rats ass if he doesn't want to wear his seat belt, THAT'S HIS DECISION, just because its the law doesn't make it right. He asked a simple question, not for everyone's opinions. Geezee. I hate that chime to, Walmart is about 1 mile away from my home, and NO I DONT Feel like putting on my seatbelt just to drive there.

And this is because most people only commute that from day to day, they don't have longer trips... if everyone commuted 30 miles guess what, the accidents would be more likely in a 30 mile radius.

theres a speaker somewhere under the dash. locate it and unplug it??? but after awhile of driving without the belt i have found a way to deactive it. drive 5 miles and it will deactive itself until u park the car. stop and go driving within 30 sec it will not beep.

to his/her own safety.

I agree with lazer.. I mean obviously its best to put it on but hey if you dont want to, then you don't want to.. Big deal, your decision..

Anywho to the OP, I know in my friends WRX there is a mod where you hold the button in and put the metal part in and out of over and over about 25-30 times and the beep or light doesnt come on anymore.. I know this has pretty much nothing to do with our cars, but just a thought..

most people have a shorter attention span and let their guard down while driving close to home (much like yourself not wanting to wear your belt). This false sense of security in turn leads to most of people's accidents being very close to home.

It used to be Acurazine policy that threads on this topic were locked and that discussion of this issue was not permitted. I wonder what changed.

I feel naked without a seatbelt unless I'm going a minimal distance, like last week when I pulled the TL around the corner (all of about 150 feet) to jumpstart my other car. I don't understand how anyone can drive without a belt.

I disagree. I am an adult and it's my choice if I want to buckle up. If you notice the chime got softer in the newer TL's and the 2004 is annoying and loud. I would LOVE to know how to get rid of it.

If you're that desperate, and if you're really as immature as you sound, search the boards.

It may be your "choice" whether to wear a seatbelt (although I hope you get a ticket if you choose not to wear one), but it's the moderators' choice whether to allow this topic to be discussed. As moderator ggesq said, "I don't know why this was resurrected but AZ does not promote the idea of disabling a safety feature." Hopefully the moderators will soon give this thread the old....

Actually, it used to be our policy to delete these threads, but that has changed and now we don't censor anyone from talking about disabling the seat belt.

As long as they stay on topic and remain civil and informative.

But they never do, so now we just close them and provide a little entertainment until the threads slides off the first page or two and is never seen again.
