That's kind of what i was thinking too. The dealer was trying to convince me because they were having trouble finding a 6-spd in the kinectic blue.

the 6 speed of course...better gear ratios, quicker shifting, hold the gear you want at any time...yada yada yada...however, i have an auto/sportshift, and really enjoy having the option to shift or use auto, but the shift mode is not the same as a 6 speed manual...this is a choice you need to make for yourself...

if you plan on doing over 75% of your driving on the highway there is no question you better make the dealer find you a 6speed

me I do 75% of my driving in the city lmfao

Are you able to hold the gear to redline with your automatic? I know that some sequential trans. sometimes shift early to save the engine.

highway driving isnt going to require a manual...an auto would fit that bill better...i would say if your doing a lot of sporty driving in the hill/country side, get a manual...otherwise, get the auto...or get a sports car instead....

never really tried, but i dont really need to be banging off the redline either...i would rather shift right before it...the one thing i dont like about the sportshift mode is that if i do try to upshift, more times than not, if i got my foot in the gas, i wont shift until it gets to the best shift point ie its shifting on its own anyway...what i do like is using the spotshift to down shift....

Already have the sportscar. The problem is it's mainly a track car. I'm sure I'll figure it out. I agree having the choice of shift or not to shift is appealing.

I can hold a gear very close to the red line.... but once you go over it will automatically switch up.....I only get the kick back feeling from gear 1 to 2 to 3...after that....4 & 5 are nothing.

The 6-speed will perform better if you're good at shifting.
The 5A (it's an automatic with Sport Shift, not a true sequential tranny) will be more consistent, i.e. no botched clutch changes or mis-timed shifts.

That said, you need to figure out if you want the 5A or 6M for day-to-day driving otherwise, since you have a track car already.
I got a 5A TL as a daily driver b/c my spouse wanted a car with an auto (otherwise, I might have gotten a 6M TSX or RX-8- nice tranny/clutches but little torque), but I haven't missed having a manual, and I don't even bother with the SS.

Honestly that the only reason it's even up for discussion is because my future wife can't drive a manual. You know, trying to keep the peace.

Argument is over- good luck with the 5A!
If your SO isn't willing to learn/can't learn to drive a manual and will be using your car even infrequently, you're getting the 5A- says the voice of still-married experience.

I think you can do it in sportsshift mode except 1st gear since the computer shifts from 1st to 2nd automatically in SS mode.

It's all good. I think i am going to buy the 5spd auto. I have located one kinetic blue one. I'm about being different and the kbp is the only color exclusive to the type-s on the tl.

I can only speak for the '07 TL-S 5AT with absolute certainty, but I assume it's the same for the '08 TL-S also.

In the SportShift mode the TL-S will hold every gear until you up/down shift.

- You can bounce it off the redline all day long and it won't shift until you tell it too. (OK, I don't know that for a fact, but I have hit the limiter in 1st -> 2nd a few times and it stays in 1st).

- It will hold 1st until you shift; it won't upshift when it wants to like the 2G did.

- You can downshift 2nd -> 1st; Could not do that in the 2G.

- It has a 2nd gear start feature.

- It will not allow a downshift that would put you over the redline in the lower gear; it flashes the gear number in the dash and ignores the command.

- It will rev match downshifts.

- There are a couple of exceptions to the above when Grade Logic Control takes over - those are in the Owners Manual and are pretty rare.

The MT is quicker. Period. Better gear ratio's, lighter weight, quicker engagement. (The AT actually "initiates" the shift faster, virtually instantly, but the engagement sequence takes longer).

6 Speed Manual will perform better if you enjoying rowing the gears yourself.

this is only for the 04-06 models. the 07+ got the RL trans which allows you to redline every gear.
