trunk opening question

The trunk on my 06 TL currently doesn't open with the switch inside the vehicle.....It will open with the key fob but I only hear it click open it doesn't actually open up.....My question is should the trunk be actually opening up when I use key fob or switch or do you have to lift it? I'm trying to figure out if not only is the switch not working but something else as well?

Not sure if this is what you're asking as it's kind of unclear, but the trunks only unlatch, and you have to open the trunk yourself. It does not have any means to fully open automatically.

If it's just the button inside the car that's not working, then like the previous poster said - check the trunk switch in the glove box.

as he said, try the switch in the glove box.

as far as the trunk, i'm pretty dissapointed with the TL's trunk. in my 2001 CL typeS, the trunk would open about 2 or more inches, and I could give it a very light swing to shut it. With the TL, i gotta slam it much much harder, then you get to hear the wonderful license plate rattle.

That's kind of odd too. On my TL, I can let the trunklid go when it is about halfway closed and it has enough force to close itself. No pushing required. Sometimes I just ease it down and give it a little push. I thought the TL trunk was the easiest by a long shot to close.

If I had to slam my trunklid - I'm sure the license plate would rattle too. Maybe there's some adjustment for the latch? Kind of like how you can adjust the latch on the hood.

Check the switch in the glove box as other stated above - but please verify: With either the fob or switch inside the car, does the trunk lid come up at all as in like a 1/4 inch? Or does it click yet not move what so ever??

From your description I get the feeling you have to push the key fob and at the same time "pull" the trunk lid up to open... Is that accurate? If so you have either a failure or adjustment issue with your trunk latch (and/or trunk lid spring). While closing the trunk lid slowly does it bind when latching or shift to one side?

Now, if it does at least pop up a 1/4 of an inch or as much as 6 inches that is completely normal.

if the switch in the glove box is active, he wouldn't even open the trunk with the key fob...

There is another issue here...

I guess I never tried the fob with the glove box switch off. Thought that was a valet function to go along with the valet key to keep them out of the trunk etc..

I'm just wondering if it only opens a little bit yet he is use to a trunk opening all the way on previous vehicles etc..

If it doesn't move at all yet clicks,,, Then he definitely has a minor issue with latch, alignment, or spring..

Be careful these are also the symptoms of the battery about to go - at least that is the way I experienced it on my TL.

what you dscribed is exactly how my CL's trunk used to close. My wife's 04 accord has the same stupid trunk hinges as my current TL. I always used to say "look at how nice the Acura trunk closes"... guess she's laughing now.

OMG....now you can all say at once...NEWBIE!!!!!....I flipped the switch in the glove box and now the trunk opens like a charm with the inside switch....(about 6 inches)....when I use the key fob it just "clicks" and I have to walk over and raise it from what appears to be a closed position......I was asking if this was normal because my other cars when you activated the trunk release would spring the trunk almost fully open and I was wondering if mine was a normal experience! Thanks guys for pointing out what should have been obvious!
