Trunk noise when closing

Is the sound I hear when I close my trunk - the spring or something? Is that normal or signs of a problem. Not sure how to describe it. Like hitting a kettle drum or something (not that I even know what that sounds like!)

Could it be your rear license plate vibrating? Since the screws are on top, the bottom of the license plate can vibrate against the car, especially if you have a license plate frame. The solution would be to stick a piece of foam on the back of the plate to prevent it.

There is a noise from the trunk springs, but it shouldn't be too noticable. Did you have a trunk spoiler of any kind put on? It may be that when they put in the new springs it caused an issue.

yep - have the spoiler on - lip one. Didn't notice at first - when I go in for tranny recall - I will have them check it out

TBONE, I thought you had a wing spoiler? I think it may be the license plate since mine makes the same noise and I think that's where it's coming from.

More than likely it is the license plate making the noise. I stopped mine from making the noise by mounting the plate with all four screws.

I have the same problem. I thought that it could be the license plate, but I had insulated the plate by putting in some felt backing on the underside. I then determind it to be the thin metal sheeting over the exhaust pipes. If you tap that area (make sure your car's cold otherwise you might burn yourself on the exhaust) you'll notice the same tingly springy sound.

I had a little pebble caught between that sheet and the rest of the underbody and it would vibrate ever so slightly whenever I closed the trunk.

I have what is most likely the same sound. Kind of a "pingggg" or "twangggg"
It's not the license plate or the exhaust.. Mine sounds like its inside the trunk lid behind the plate area. I believe it's a part of the latch mechanism etc. I don't have either spoiler..
I'll look into it one of these days... I just don't have time to go to a dealer now days...

I think Tbone and my car were built right after each other..... Tend to have the exact same issues..
