Trunk LED Question

Guys;

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the correct bulb size for the trunk of a 3G TL is a 2825? If so, what is the brightest white LED direct bulb replacement I can get from VLEDs.com? I can only find a blue 2825 bulb on that site but I want white. Please advise.

thanks carrie but that really wasn't helpful. I know the bulb size is 2825 but wondering if I could use something else. I just want something that is a bit brighter than the stock bulb and an easy drop in.

I've been looking at that one but its not a simple drop in. IT looks like you need to solder it in. I wouldn't mind but I am having my dealer drop in all my exterior bulbs when they fix my bumper and they won't do that unless its a simple drop in.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Blue-...4625QQtcZphoto
this guy has all colors and he will sell you just the trunk bulb if that is what you want. I think 12led is the brightest you can get, that is what I have and it is almost too bright

It is too a simple drop in, I just did mine. Just remove the stock bulb and and plug this one in with the right connector.

Nooo they send you various connectors depending on your bulb, you will use the 194 bulb adapter which you will see when you pull out the factory bulb. If it doesn't fit dude I'll buy it from you!!!

1 - Circuit Board
1 - 211 Base
1 - 3175 Base
1 - 194 Base
1 - 57 Base
1 - 1156 Base

Oo and another thing, when you install it, if it doesn't light. Flip the adapter around. I tried that in mine and freaked out thinking it didn't work but I flipped the connector around and it worked. Other than that, its smooth sailing! GL

PM me if you have any issues

msala;

ok so its not dual polarity then. I will note this. funny b/c I installed all my interior LEDs and they all worked the first time so I assumed they are all dual polarity. good to note...

I'm pretty sure all the interior lights are the same, so you probably got really lucky. I installed mine a few months back and don't really remember if there signal or dual polarity but if anyone knows chime in. I just know I used that 30 led board and it works great

I use the same one as msala it comes with a 194 adapter which you will use. The trunk is exactly the same as the vanities. Put some double sided tape next to the circuit board to get it to sit perfectly in the center, thats what i did. Its a bit tricky to get it all in there perfect but you can do it.

Was it difficult to get to the light and the lens cover?

Its alil tricky to take off, but its you have to pry it from one side. Be careful not to break the plastic piece. It may bend, just bend it back in place and it will be fine and fit snug.

Nope, you pop out the 4 plastic rivet things. Mine were already easy to remove becuase I have taken them out before fixing sub rattles. Then you take a screw driver and press in on the side you will see a plastic tab, press that in and the housing pops out. Then you disconnect the housing and you can work on fitting the LED panel inside. I should have taken some pics, its pretty easy you will figure it out. The tricky part is if you use the 30 LED panel getting it to line up exactly in the center of the housing, this is where the tape comes in handy.

Most of the bulbs are not dual polarity. But, the dome bulbs Audioholics got are. The flanks and a couple m-smt bulbs that have the same base (the panel base vs. the contact wires) are generally dual polarity. It will usually tell you in the description of the bulb on the v-led site.

What part of the 30-led panel did you apply the tape to? I didn't use any tape on mine in the trunk. I just have it positioned in the housing, wired coiled on top, with the panel sitting directly on the lens cover. It didn't end up perfectly centered after putting it all back together but you can't tell........unless you're laying in the trunk that is. Just curious. I don't plan on taking it apart again just to center it but I know some have applied tape when using the 30-led panels in the domes.

I used the thick tape and I put a thin strip on both sides of the LED panel, no tape is actually sticking to the panel. I did the same thing for my 30 LED panels in the vanities. It looks great they are all perfectly centered.

All LED's are single polarity. So, if they don't work one way, flip'em.
