Trunk issue - no longer pops up

After installation of the wing spoiler fro Trimking my trunk no long pops up. I'm sure this would easily be fixed with the installation of the stronger springs from the OEM rear wing kit. Is it possible to get just the spring from the dealer without ordering the entire kit? The dealer I spoke with said I need to purchase the entire kit ti get the spring.

Have you checked eBay and our sponsored vendors (Hondacuraworld and others)? I say call another dealership. I would think Trimking should have a solution as well.

I had the same problem with my 00 TL and the 'OEM like' wing- Acura didn't provide me with the stronger springs- I think it's part of the wing kit. I don't think they are available separately (the stronger springs). The trunk will stay open when opened fully, it just doesn't pop up as much. Not a big deal, really. It never really bothered me that much.

Did you uninstall the springs when you installed the spoiler?

The wing spoiler adds additional weight to the trunk, therefore after the installation of the wing spoiler, the trunk may not pop up as usual.

The OEM wing spoiler comes with stronger springs to replace the ones already in there.

rka4570 bought an aftermarket wing that did not come with stronger springs.

i also had the same problem, i had the aftermarket wing installed and the trunk dosent really pop up much .. and it closes way to fast ... sort of slamming shut when i barely push it closed.

Let me know where you get the springs from.

Thanks,
-Rob

The instructions make the installation appear easy. https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...8&postcount=16
I will also be purchasing the special spring removal tool from H and A accessories so I expect the job to go really easy. My co-worker who has the Acura rear wing - his trunk pops up 3-4 inches when the trunk is released and doesn't slam down like mine does. I will post results after the install.

The springs are hell to replace...

I installed a factory wing on my TL and even with the spring tool designed for the job, those torsion bars are a major SOB's to reinstall.

The old springs come out easily enough, but getting the new, stiffer ones, in is the problem. You don't have a lot of room to work with and the angle is awkward so getting good leverage on the tool to move the ends into place is difficult.

You definitely want to be wearing heavy gloves when doing this to keep your hands from getting pinched, especially if the tool slips, which it CAN definitely do. If I hadn't been wearing a pair of heavy leather work gloves my hand would have looked like hamburger when that tool slipped. As it was it left a nice bruise.

when i changed the spoiler on my honda, i did with what ever i could get my hands on because i didn't have the tool. although it was difficult i used lumber etc to twist the spings off.
with my tl, i bought the tool thinking it would be a breeze to change out the springs. i agree with others that posted a reply that it is a bitch to change out even with the correct tool. taking off isn't bad but to put back on is something else. watch out so that the tool won't slide out.

Just an FYI, even with the heavier springs if they are installed wrong it won't open right. The heavier spring was installed but the other spring was swapped with the wrong side(essentially it was the other sides spring upside down) so it didn't open right. The only way I could figure it out was to compare it to another TL's trunk springs.

I got the same problem. The car is less than 4 months old and the when I open the trunk it only lifts about three inches instead of swinging wide open. I will take care of it in my next dealership visit.

I don't think it was meant to open all they way. It pops up just enough where you can push the trunk up. All you need is to clear the latch.

I installed the springs today and boy what a difference! Now when I pop open the trunk it pops up about 8" before the lock clicked and the trunk appeared closed but was actually open. Now once the trunk pops open and if you lift if half way the spring will open the trunk all the way and hold it there. It feels much more secure and less likely to close on its own especially when parked on uphill grade. These springs should be sold with every after market wing kit!
