Transporting your dog in the back seat.

What do you guys use to cover your leather seats and door panels? And is there a particular way you lay it all out?

I use a blanket to cover the bottom of the back seats/floor (so I don't get as much dog hair in the carpet) and a towel over the center armrest that they inevitably step on. I sometimes try to string a big towel across the upper half of the back seats, but it doesn't usually stay.

Interested in what others do.

We used to only transport our dog in the suv, but if I had a car and was going long distances, something like this might work if you don't want any hair on the carpet. If you aren't going far, this might be overkill and a bit silly lol.

If I must use my car to transport my dog(which is rare). I use a black bath mat b/c she has black hair and the mat is grippy on the bottom...won't slide around.
But the trick is I put it on the front passenger seat and make her sit there. That way, she doesn't have run of the whole back seat and she doesn't dig her nails into the arm rest.
She weighs about 50lbs and is very good at obeying. So she sits still for the ride to the sitters.

This is a great thread. My dog sheds a lot, so there will inevitably always be hair, but I use this basic tarp and it keeps the hair from going in between the seats/seatbelt holes:

The towel over the center arm rest is a good idea. I don't really know what to do about the door panels, floor, and back of the seats.

Basically just gotta hope for the best. Hair and drool come with having a dog. I might put some Paddy's Pub Kitten Mittons on him to prevent scratches haha.

I usually use a bed sheet. That way I can put it over the seats and it will cover the bottom of the seat too. Then if they just sit on that without moving too much it isn't bad.

FANTASTIC! I love this thread. Thank you for the great idea. I am going to buy that little hammock for my two dogs which love to run around in the back. Will also keep them from falling to the floor if I have a hard stop or some jerk decides to cut me off. Plus prevents them from digging their nails into the leather and if an accident happens easier clean up.

I am Sold!

I have a picnic blanket that I use on my passengers seat. One side is soft and the other side has a waterproof like material (that I got at Target). I drape it on the seat, the floor board, center console and shift knob. It works for me.

I'm not afraid of the dogs on the leather really. A blanket will remedy that. What I am afraid of is the nails on the door skins.

Any products out there that will go all the way up like that?

All depends on the dog, my 80 pound boxer is not stepping foot in my car. Lol

I've had one dog in my car once. And, God's honest truth, that one time produced the only non-fixable scratch on my car. And it was a dachshund "climbing" in. Lol... Even told my wife "you hold her, you get in. Don't let her climb in". Nope! Huge scratch on the inner door sill.

I can't imagine putting my two pitbulls in there. I'd probably have a heart attack.

I always crate my dogs, both @ 50 lbs. Helps in every way, they stay calm & I stay calm, lol. Here it is actually the law, you have to crate them, have a barrier between the front & rear seats or have real dog seat belts. Gotta love CA.

I have a 150 mastiff, he needs every square inch of the back seat.
I have a advance auto generic seat cover.

I hear you. Our dog was a 130lb Bullmastiff. He was never in the car, only in the SUV.
