Transmission question.
Transmission question.
Have a 2006 TL AT. Just wondering if anyone has the same problem as i do.
When i'm on the highway and rolling at speeds lower than 90 mph, if I floor it, the vtech seems to quick in, the engine revs higher and the car really moves.
However, if i'm rolling at 90 mph or slighlty higher and floor it, the car does not really rev high, stays at around 3 rpm, and feels sluggish and slowly accelarates. The only way to get the car to really get going is to downshift gears on my own.
Is this a normal issue that most people have or do i have a problem with my tranny?
Thanks

it might be because the car is already in 5th gear and if the computer were to downshift into fourth, it would only give a spilt second of VTEC before hitting redline and then shifting to 5th. This is my idea, but i haven't gone over 100mph in the TL.
I agree with the general responses.
I had started a similiar thread a few months ago because mine would not downshift at 65 MPH. Your situation is identical to mine.

The conclusion ---> it's normal behaviour. If the downshift would be too close to the next shiftpoint (6500 RPM), then the car just foregoes the downshift (not worth the effort). If it was to downshift, the trans would just need to upshift again in a fraction of a second later.
You will encounter this at approx 63-70 MPH too. To fast to cause a downshift, but too slow to get into VTEC also. You are just caught between gears so to speak.
Like others have said, move the shifter to Sports Shift. It is imperative that you have your foot off of the throttle as you downshift with the shifter to allow the trans to be shifted into the lowest gear possible (when close to the next shift point).
