Traded Up to a 08 TL-S
Hi!
I've been a member of this forum for sometime - never really posted anything but logged in almost every morning to read all the threads and research different issues I was having... But I am so siked about my TL-S i had to post!
I had an 06 TL w/o navi for two years - loved, loved, loved the car but after seeing the 4G TL i went ahead and traded up to an 08 TL-S...
Unfortunately the supply of Type-S in Jax, Fl was very limited so I ended up with the slushbox. It will be okay since I drive over an hour each morning in traffic to work.
The car had some dealer installed CRAP on it - I like the colored splash guards but I'm not to sure about the door trim - what do yall think? If I decide I don't like it i hope I'll be able to take it off!!!!!
Also, I had my windows tinted in the 06 TL and was lucky enough to never have a scratch issue - Does anyone recommend a good place to go in Jacksonville FL that is aware of the scratch issue?
Pictures Below!!! (Let me know if you think the door trim is tacky)

noice pphonee... heheeh
nice car too
as for the tints, any shop that uses moleskin, make sure you dont go to a shop that will snip the inner weather strips
as for the door trims, they are glued on, comes right off, keep it there till you start to mod hard, everyone on here will say "bsm" which is body side molding, just so you know what peeps is talking about from now on... lol

I like your new car way better, even with the door guards. I'm sick of people banging my doors!!! I would just keep them and not worry about it.
What % tint do you use?
You need the Acura allweather mats and trunk liner.

Congrats on the trade. It looks great. Regarding the BSM's if you like it- keep them. That's all that really matters.

Thanks - I just can't make up my mind on the BSM. When I see another TL the lines just look cleaner w/o them.
But my wife has an 08 Pilot (sadly I just could not afford the MDX) and she has, in the past, dinged the old TL when putting our daughter in the car seat...
xen cuts - I think I am going to tint the windows 20% all around...
Wingman - I live out towards Baldwin but work on the Southside (nice long annoying drive over the Fuller Warren Bridge)

Congrats on the upgrade to the 08 TL-S. I see you got one of the last remaining one's in Jax. I'm also in Jax. Live in the Arygle area near OP and also work in the SS area near JTB. I see you both joined AZ the same year and month. LOL
We have local meets from time to time. Keep your eye on the "Meets" section. I also like to PM members of meets, so I'll add you both to my list which is around 60 members. Not all active. There are 4 or 5 members within a couple of miles from me.
Anyway, the BSM's look good to me. But everyone has their own taste. I have my tint at 15% all around. Found a place on Blanding toward Middleburg. I have a coupon for 50% off if you want it. They are called "Got Tint". Guy did a good job but will not install moleskin. I did that myself before taking the car in.
The SSM looks great! My old TSX was SSM. I really like the way it hides dirt. Anyway, welcome to AZ.......since this is only your 3rd post and to Wingman20 as well.......

Nice car man. Get the Type-S Aspec kit then rethink about taking the body side mouldings off. I think they actually compliment the A-spec kit.

We should have a meet set up sometime soon. I am in OP a lot so I might have seen yours.. What color is yours? Mine is the WDP with the tinted tails and my buddy is the NBP. With both have the lip kit..
Anyhow, drinks at alehouse should be nice to meet everyone's acquaitance and to welcome Jacksonville_TL and his new ride.

I'm down for a meet. The Ale House is right around the corner from work. Perhaps a lunch time meet. I'm flexible.

Jacksonville, I've got the same car. Congrat's on your upgrade. If you're looking for input, I would suggest getting rid of the door guards. When I bought mine, the dealership suggested NOT getting them-they said you lose the flow of the car. I agreed with them and didn't have them installed. You'll definately like it better without the guards.
If you'd like to see some of the mods I've done, please PM me and I can send you the link. With a TL (and even more so, a Type S), you just get used to parking farther away and walking more.
Congrats again.....go Navy!!

Congrats....I just did exactly the same after seeing the 4g pics....traded my 06 TL Navi for a Type S. I almost bought exactly the same color car, but feel in love with my KBP. Palm Beach Acura still has a Type S ASM with ebony and 3 other Type S left....they probably have about 50 non Type S cars left.

Does anyone recommend a good place to go in Jacksonville FL that is aware of the scratch issue?

Nice tradeup - beautiful car. My .02 about the bsm - I think the TL looks better without it. Neither my 00, 04 or 08 have had it. If you normally park your car in a "cautious" fashion I would consider taking it off. But its your call. There are alot of inconsiderate people out there.

Thanks for all the input!
Yes, I am absolutely loving the navigation! It's awesome and is way better than my friends IS350 - Lexus totally locks down the nav while driving. It's also sad that Honda/Acura is moving away from the touch screen.
There are some things I've noticed about the 07-08 TL vs the 04-06. (Knock on wood) I have no rattles - my sub does not even rattle!! I know the sound system is the same as the 04-06 but for some reason it sound much better to me... Maybe because of the rattles?!?!
Has anyone noticed the brembo braked make a crazy amount of brake dust? I end of cleaning my wheels twice a week!

The dealer gave me 21k for my 06 non-navi w/ 32k miles on it. Unfortunately, I owed more than that (26k). I paid 37.4k OTD so if you consider the negative equity i guess I paid around 33 for the car. I only financed 31.5k so hopefully when I buy a 5g TL I won't have to deal with the negative equity issue. (as of now I am skipping the 4g).

Oh yes, plenty of brake dust from the Brembo's.

the molding actually matches up perfectly with the front aspec lip, otherwise the lip looks sorta out of place.
either way great upgrade!

The auto is pretty nice. I don't really have to much to complain about. The shifts seem quick and smooth. The only complaint thus far is when I was passing a Taurus on a two lane road I just eased on the gas when I was 1/2 way around him the jack ass floored his car. I floored mine but I did not get a kick down to second gear like I thought the auto should have... Still had plenty of power to get around him!

I tried to find a manual too and they could not find one within 300 miles... The dealer actually let me take home an 09 TSX Tech with the 6 speed for the weekend but ultimately I wanted a TL-S...
