Trade in my TL for '09 WRX...

Thinking about getting rid of the TL for an 09 WRX hatch....I've always loved the looks and the AWD would of course be fun. Anyone have any experiences with these?? For comparison, I have a 6spd tl with nav...

It's a toss up for me.

TL Pros:

6spd
Navi
Nice Luxury car
is yours a base or Type S?

Cons:
FWD

WRX pros:
The body is amazing
Hearing that turbo
AWD

I test drove one and loved it, but I wouldn't be sure about giving up my 3G 6mt.

Mine's a base...I do love the luxury aspect of it, but I also miss the sound of a turbo. I think I shall go test drive the one I'm looking at to see how it compares and would feel in everyday driving.

What is the difference in the trade-in and the price of the vehicle?

You can easily put in a turbo for $8k (TL).

Don't get me wrong I loooovvveee the new wrx's but I don't think I could give up my tl for it. If I want awd I'll go with the 4g tl.

LOL I wouldn't consider that as "easily"... I spent half that in a stock Evo and made over 500 whp where "$8k" just to turbo a TL... Won't get u much over 300.. Huge waste of money.

Imo go with the wrx if you want the turbo. If its just Awd u want and still want some luxury could get a newer TL sh Awd

I'm not sure what they'll give me for my trade, haven't gone to see it yet. And my days of turboing cars are over for now. Looking for something reliable for a daily driver and don't have time for my car to be down.

wrx is a 5 speed... it really should be a 6 speed. that drove me nuts. I would hands down have a Evolution X GSR if they came in a 6 speed manual (theyre onyl 5 sp)

Both the TL and WRX are reliable for daily driving duty and will do well in low traction conditions.

What you reallly need to ask yourself is if you want an econo-box chassis with fast internals or a mid-luxury chassis with just-enough internals.

http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/200...09-subaru-wrx/

I think you should look outside the TL and WRX forums for that answer. Actually, you should look at the maintenance schedule and costs for the WRX. Most AWD systems aren't cheap to maintain (even preventative; for proof look at the Mitsubishi Evo forums) and the more power you have, the more stress you place on components.

I've been inside a friends 2011 wrx. It's a fast car, but not comfortable at all. I like the TL for what it is. A beautifully designed exterior and a well-matched interior that doesn't look cheap and comes loaded with all types of comfort features especially if you have the NAVI (Voice-activated commands, beautiful navi to display several items, back-up camera...)

The WRX interior on the other hand... BLEH.

I like knowing that I'm driving a TL which is a mature looking car. You can step out in a business suit and still look nice. Step out of a WRX in a business suit and your suit and car doesn't match.

I can also pick up my girlfriend from her house and her mom can see my car and be impressed. As opposed to seeing a speed racer box car.

2 really retarded and irrelevant reasons that I like my TL, but hey if you want to hear the sound of turbo and AWD go for it.

I'd rather stay luxury and stick to Infiniti G37, BMW 335 or 535, M-Benz E-350, Lexus GS or IS350

Maybe I would consider a WRX/STi or a Evo as a 2nd car. Having it as a daily driver for me isn't practical. I'm not worried about driving fast, but than again I have a auto hahaha

My buddy has an Evo, my other has a 550 whp STi..

Their cars have a buttload of get-up-and-go, but my car is comfortable as hell and doesn't look like a spruced up Neon interior. I prefer my TL for the amenities and the non-jarring ride. Riding in a little zip car is fun, but I hate bouncing around in my seat.

not to mention with AWD systems dont you have to replace all your tires if one gets damaged and needs to be replaced? For the sake of your center diff.

i cant imagine spending $400+ on a whim if one of my tires blows and cant be repaired.

edit: looks like there's some tolerance, depending on car manufacturer, 30% tread difference is acceptable in some cases.

Please, sorry to sound rude, but if you don't know what you're talking about, don't say it at all.

$8k will get you 400whp.
An extra $2k or so will get you to 500whp+.

The big difference between applications is that the TL is a sleeper, luxury car. WRX is ugly imo.

I thought that at first to but they grew on me, but I think OP shouldn't come to a Acura forum or a subie forum, I think he should research the cars, test drive them and see what works for him. Which I think he is going to end up doing anyway.

I agree 100%, I love knowing the fact that no matter how Im dressed either leaving the gym or going to work with a Glock on my side or to court in a suit, my TL turns me into a GQ.

The TL looks like class and hauls a$$, STI looks like mom and dad gave there teen their bank acount info and said go by a car and have fun with your little friends at the mall showing off.

the funny part is I had a same deicsion point for myself before.. and it was the fac the passanger seat was not powered and there were no heat seats annoyed me.. that and no leather.. not sure what the newer models are like but I just love the luxury feel of the TL.. dont get me wrong though if I could get a toy car besides my TL I would get a STi

Yes. Its a econo box thats fast and plain, great looking, but still basically its a $20k car with an awesome engine and AWD

its your car you get what you want. However this is clearly a downgrade. I test drove a nice one befoer i bought my TL. yeah there fast and AWD.

smaller inside and trunk
no bluetooth
no heated seats
no leather
no navi
same MPGs
worst interior

just not worth it IMHO

also i believe our TLs are faster than stock WRxs. maybe not an EVO or STI.. but hey i know i smoked a WRX 5 speed on the highway before from a stop and a roll.!!!!

If you're going to drop down to a muscle car, might as well do a car that could help you pick up girls like a camaro or something, not something that will likely only impress teenage boys.

Thanks for all the input guys, I know in the department of amenities, it's an obvious downgrade...I love my tl, but quite frankly I get bored very easily and more than likely won't have any car for more than 3 years. Probably going to at least take a look on Saturday and see for myself how I like/don't like it.

I don't look at the 09's as something to impress teenage boys...maybe the older wrx's that are everywhere...but I've only seen a handful of the new hatch's around and think they're quite nice.

I had the same idea of getting a WRX, but I decided It's too much of a downgrade. The TL does fine in the snow with snow tires on, it has all the luxuries, and it should last quite a while. I'll wait for a 5th gen TL or something.

Smh... Like is said. I spent HALF that in MY evo and made 550whp. Lmao at you if you spend $8k and still think its worth the money to only break 300 HP or 400 HP. It doesn't matter. It's still pathetic.

Heck I can spend $3500 on a FP black turbo, bolt ons, a tune and $30 worth of E85 for gas and rape a $8k dollar mods TL all night if you want. You may know more than me when it comes to TL but I guarantee you don't when it comes to EVOS and WRX. If you want a fast car this is surely not the car to be in cause you will be put to shame by plenty of cars on a way lighter budget even with a "sleeper" excuse to make yourself feel better about all the money wasted.

You can get a used 2010 Camaro SS manual with 426hp that WILL smoke an STI (STOCK) For around $25k. I had one for 26 months, put Blizzak tires with 150 pounds of salt in the truck. In Northern IL I drove it everyday. Only one time I had to use the salt in my trunk, I also carried a small shovel with me incase, maybe thats when I never got stuck in DEEP snow. I LOVED the Camaro 0-60 in 4.6 seconds, 1/4 mile in 12.8 seconds, with only deleted mufflers. I WILL get a WDP TL, Nav soon.

I had an STi once, for about 8 months. It was a ton of fun to drive, but I have to admit, it was embarrassing sometimes to sit in traffic with that enormous spoiler and the iconic sound of misfiring through the exhaust. You can only tear away from a light so many times before the Suburban behind you catches you at the next one, and you feel immature.

Rex's are nice. I like the styling, but you lose the amenities. Find what your comfortable with. I believe many here, while defending Navi, Voice Control and Bluetooth options to the death, rarely actually use them for everyday driving. Just my opinion. Good luck!

The TL is in a class of its own. Perfect blend of sport and luxury. I LOVED the bluetooth and the NAV. AWESOME IMO. I have considered a New 2010 WRX STI when I bought the 2010 Camaro LS3 SS/RS once I drove it

They are 2 completely different types of cars man, you just have to decide whether you're a roomy luxury car kinda guy or the type that likes to spend a lot of money to get a lot of power and not a lot of comfortable car.

I like the turbocharged Subarus but honestly, it's a lot of money for not that much car......sit in one once, you barely have room to stretch/spread your legs aka relax.

If you must have one go for a top model, previous generation Legacy.

Ther eis no turbo equipment for acura tl unfortunately. You can go ahead and install a supercharger which is better than a turbocharcher and it will just cost like 5,500 or 6000 with installation. It will increase the performance like from 270 or 280 hp to 325 hp which is really good for a luxury sedan

By the way the supercharger sound... kick ass.
