touch up paint recommendation in So. Cal.

Anyone have recommendations on what I should do about 4 deep scratches i have, about 8 inches long, on my rear bumper. I accidently back into a light post and scratched my bumper and broke my driverside tail light. I'm getting my driver side tail light replaced at Acura Glendale this saturday, but I don't know what to do about my scratches. I think its too big for touch up paint. Any one have recommendaitons on what I should do. If I need to repaint, anyone have a good person to recommend in the Los Angeles area? thanks, benkei

Thumbs up

For what it's worth, I backed my Solara (my car prior to the TL) into another car and messed up the paint on the rear end. I asked if claiming it on my insurance would raise my rates and they said "no, as long as it's under $1000, it won't raise your rates". I claimed, they fixed, I didn't end up paying more.

I would at least ask your insurance co. about it. You can't get an increase for asking... No ask, no get right?

thanks for the tip on the insurance, I will ask my Insurance co. i'm assuming the work has to be more than the deductable i'm paying in order for it to be worth it for me.

if they will fix, do i take my car to a body shop to repaint or the dealer?

Body shop recommendation

I have a great and reasonable Body Shop for you. Doug's Auto Body in Torrance on Normandie. 310-533-5055 I believe is the number. Ask for Doug and tell him I referred you. He will take good care of you. I have had him do work on many of my cars and referred him to others. They always are happy.

I took mine to a body shop that was approved by my insurance. Pasadena Collision if you're in the area. Good guys, great results and they handled all of the insurance. I've been there three times now

WOW...I'm suprized how well the paint matches the original color. If you had cleaned out the scratch before applying the touch-up paint, it would look almost perfect. Griots Garage sells a small tool with an abrasive tip made just for cleaning out the scratches. It looks like you painted right over dirt or clumps of paint. I think if you remove the crud, and make the scratch clean, then repaint, you'll have an almost perfect repair.

Thanks for the pics, leo221! I think the color matches pretty well.. It would probably work even greater wonders on smaller scratches!
