Touch up paint pen

Has anybody bought the touch up paint pen from HandAaccessories.com or elsewhere? I have a few scratches on my hood and roof that I want to take care of. Body shop quoted me $500, which is too much in my opinion simply because it's bound to get scratched again anyway. Just wondering if anyone has any feedback on it. I figure it's worth a shot at $7.00.

Question Touch-up Pen or Paint ?

OT: What's the difference between the pen and the touch up paint ?

In the past I've used the touch-up paints which seem very much like nail polish. I've never tried the pen. Which would be better ?

I figured the touch-up paint would be fine when wet sanded with 1000 grit (or better) between coats using several applications to fill in the chip. There have been a few good threads about touch ups, here's a couple links.

Heard About It

I heard about it on a different forum and he liked it. I checked out the site and am considering getting one. I am confused about the color codes, though. The explaination on the site about Accura's color lable just confused me.

I've bought one from the canadian eBay seller. It has a paint on one end and clear coat on the other. Cames in handy with rock chips. Have not used on scratches though but is a little difficult to control the flow\. With paint you can decide to apply with a toothpick or any other means. With pen you cannot control. They are good for rock chips but might not be for scratches. Whatever you use, read this a very good process to apply I'd say.

I bought one for my SS navi. Color match was excellent and control was good. I did a rock chip with it and it was better than using a brush. Reasonably priced given the autovisual pen approaches 20 bucks with shipping.

I just ordered one of these pens, and am a bit confused on whether I need to add clearcoat afterwards. I was hoping it would become clear to me (no pun intended) after the pen showed up. The scratch I'm filling in is a circle about 1.5mm in diameter. It seems like sanding will be worse than just laying down the paint.

Any advice?

I used the handa pen and it worked fine on my SS. I used it by dabbing the paint on a very small rock chip and actually did it in two coats. I would be hard pressed to find the chip now.

Good luck with it.

I bought 2 pens from HandA. One SSM for my rims (which I haven't tested yet), and one just incase for my car in AM. About 2 weeks later I noticed a chip on the side of my trunk; no clue how it got there, but I patched it up with my paint pen. The pen works fine, but for AM, the color seems a little darker then it should be.

I AGREE...I have an AM and I used it on my door that someone scratched (probably while opening their door) and the Pen Color came out to be a lot darker than my original color. I gave it a few days thinking it will blend it but it has been almost 6 months and it is still darker then the rest of the paint.

Anyone out there have a good match for AM paint? Apparently I'm not the only one that thinks the HandA AM paint doesn't match.
