Total Loss?

So, I was involved in a 14 car pile up on Saturday due to black ice (Trooper who responded said it was a no fault weather-related accident). Woman spun out coming into a toll booth, caused a three car accident, person in front of me slid on black ice into them, I slid on the ice into the car in front of me, another car swerved and hit me on the side, another car hit me from the rear.

My passenger and I walked away without injury, thank goodness. Just a bloody nose from the airbag. My 2004 TL with Navi is trashed. 6 air bags deployed (front, all side curtains, even the backseat), electrical system fried out (though not sure if that's because it detected a collision), enture front end damaged, don't know about underneath the hood, trunk crunched, both front doors were jammed, passenger sidedoor handles gone, both side mirrors gone. Both front tires popped off rims and some rim damage (and I bought a new rim last week for $200 due to an interior crack!) 4 new tires 1500 miles ago ($1,000). Undrivable. Tow truck operator told me to say goodbye as I would likely never see the car again.

60k miles on it. Thoughts? Trying to post photos but don't know how to get them in the thread?

Sorry to hear of your lost,but I am afraid the tow truck diver is right. Start looking for something else.

If all the airbags went off, and it has front, side and rear damage, you can kiss it goodbye.

You need an online host like Photobucket. You need to register to use the service. After that, upload your pix to their server (very intuitive & user friendly). Once pix are uploaded, just copy the image code URL. For posting on the site, click on the "Go Adavanced" button to take you the "Reply to Thread" window. Click on the image icon on the toolbar and paste the URL. Click on the "Preview Post" button to view and if satisfied, click the "Submit Message" button. Voila - pix psoted.

Well, that's the important thing. But I suspect the other responders (and the tow truck driver) are correct - you won't see it again. Buy a new TL-S - I love mine.

Accident pics. By the way - there was no snow at time of accident, just black ice. These were taken about 30 minutes post-accident. And two miles south - NOTHING. Dry as a bone.

Tough without seeing the entire "picture." But since it's an '04, all bags went and the front end doesn't look good, I'm sure you can probably get it written off in the end.

ouch! wish i didnt see the pics. by the looks of it, its over. new car for you.

i havent even seen the damage in the back but it looks pretty bad. the cost of fixing it would not be worth it. it would be worth more then the vehicle.

just pulling the frame alone to straighten it out is gona cost a lot.

besides, even if they fixed the car, you wouldnt want to drive it. it will never be the same no matter how good the repair people are. in a sense, you are lucky that it is totaled.

you are even luckier that the bodily harm to you and your passenger are minimal.

Yeah, that TL is totalled. But it did exactly as it was designed.

BTW, I bet you never forget the distinctive odor of deployed airbags. I never will.

Yes, I could still remember the smell of the air bags the next day. Amazing how fast they deploy. That car kept me and my passenger very safe. We were very lucky.

one member here rear ended another and the damages were 14k. So assuming the same happended with more damage, the total repair bill would be 20k. The curent day value would be 24k, so the car would most likley be totaled. Get the money and buy another Acura TL. BTW, i am in a car with the same combo as a rental, anthrice on ebony.

wow glad to hear your safe as far as whats total and not unless a vehical is completely fubar sometimes you just cant tell what the insurance will say till they say it

Yeah, I just did some quick math on just the parts you can actually see that need replaced - the airbags alone are over $4k. Looks like about $13k just in parts without considering labor. Can't imagine how many hours it would take to fix this puppy!
