Torque Steer

Have a question to all you owners out there? I just did test drove the TL today and I did not feel any torque steer while driving. Exactly how hard do you have to push the car to get torque steer? Its seems to be one of the big issues about the car. How long would you recommend to test drive to get a good idea of the character of the car. Thanks

You have to accelerate hard enough to break the tires loose. You will feel a pull in the steering wheel accelerating hard over loose/uneven pavement, or mashing the throttle when making a 90 degree turn from a stop. I don't consider this torque steer, but whatever you want to call it there is a nasty tug on the steering wheel. It is not encountered in normal driving, and is manageable and easy to respond to when it does occur.

Only idiots who drive like Andretti would feel the effects of torque steer. If you drive like a normal person, you'd never know it existed.

The TL is perfect. Don't listen to the whiners.

Have you seen this yet? http://www.acura-tl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79706 This talks since yesterday...

If you don't feel it, it's good for you. IMO, Torque Steer is never the main issue, and isn't as popular as topics of rattle/squeaks. Also, it's not easy to understand any new car completely without the long test-driving. Maybe you should try to get another 04TL and test-drive it miles in highway, twisted roads, and cities'.

If you drive normally and don't slam too hard, you'll be fine, but if you drive aggresively then you may feel the FX of torque steer..HARD cornering and hard acceleration! it's there..

It's mostly felt when beginning a turn from a stop, giving a bit of gas (not necessarily mashing it). It's very noticeable the first few times, but then you actually get used to it and don't realize it's doing it as much - but it's definitely there!

L454,
did you test drive a stick or auto tranny. I believe the totque steer is more pronounced in the stick version. Just don't pounce all over the car from a dead stop and it won't be a problem, but be aware that it does exhibit itself on hard acceleration.

or on such common events like passing, merging, where torque steer rears its head.

There are two most important factors in trying to "feel" torque steer - first you must drop the hammer hard enough to get enough torque to the wheels, second is the quality of the road that you're on. The shittier the road the more you'll feel it pulling in directions you don't want it to go. If you have a perfect surface, torque steer is almost non-existent. The most you will feel it is when you're passing someone on the highway and have to maneuver between cars. Takes getting used to, but it's annoying as hell.

And no, you don't have to drive like Andreti to feel it. But you DO have to drive like an old man NOT to feel it. Come on, with 270 HP under the hood, how can you not drive enthusiastically? Get a fucken corolla if you don't need to feel that power.

Just spent the whole day working on deals for cars. Test drove another auto tl today and tried to invoke torque steer. It did rear its head during the test drive. Actually on the way to the test drive I saw another TL and it just so happens whoever was driving was dropping the hammer. I actually saw the car experience torque steer from the outside. His TL basicly woobled at takeoff. I also hit up infiniti to test the g35x and was quite impressed. Not as many features though. Now I have to make a decision. I managed to get a deal for a basic g35x for 31800 and 30100 for an auto tl w/o nav. :banghead:
