Top speed for a TL

I hit the electronic governor in my 04. It cut the gas off when I hit 151 mph (according to the speedo).

Yes, i have taken my TL on the Baker Grade (coming from Vegas) at 5 AM or so at 155-160.
Unfortunately the tires arent rated for that speed, so I wasnt there for very long.
I have had a Mercedes C32 AMG which ive gone that fast in before as well, and to be honest, it felt as if the TL still had more.

Mine topped out reading about 155. According to Road & Track it is electronically limited to 147 MPH. Without the limiter I bet it would reach mid 160s. When I hit the limiter and it read ~155, the RPMS were NOT close to maxing out.

A little over 100 is about all I've done(w/o kids!).. Kids with me most of the time... so I'm usually hovering around the limit or below singing "Down by the Bay"

Oops...
My salesman told me the tires were only rated to 134.
I was on the baker grade, so that really explains why it seemed to have so much left. Im pretty sure had it been a flat road and not very early in the morning, it would have pulled alot less.
As far as the feel, it felt EXTREMELY Stable. The only thing that kept me from sustaining that speed (besides my incorrect understanding of tire capability) was wind noise. At that speed, it was very loud and my GF was trying to sleep.
Sad to say, but the only reason I was going that fast was to get a good grip of how fast another car (Older 7 series) was going when he passed me (i was cruising at about 100).
I estimate he was doing about 160-165 when he started swerving in traffic.. Needless to say, he bought the farm into the center median.
I've owned lots of cars, from shitkickers to my AMG (which turned out to be a lemon). The TL has never let me down...
It could use more low end, but for the money and features, it really cant be beat.

Mph Or Kmh
Hey fellas, i live in Canada and we use KMH so when you all say you are driving 100 is that in mph or kmh. If u guys are clocking over 140 mph, thats suicidal. Fastest i drove is like 160 kmh, and my foot is like wobbling on the gas. As a fellow TL'er be careful wit dem speeds. P/S imgettig my RonJon kit soon will post pics and links to pics.

Road and Track indicated the 6MT goes 147MPH electronically limited

Its electronically limited to 152. I have heard its hit that in fourth(for you auto guys) but am too lazy to calculate it out. I am sure with the governer removed it could hit 160, and with a few extras go much faster, I would guess that given enough room, and power and top gear tweaked a TON, but still with its oem aerodynamics(maybe a REAL spoiler needed) it could hit 200, when I get super rich in 20 years Ill pic one of for 1500 bucks and see how fast I can make her go.

This reminds me of a guy I worked with many years ago. He had some little Dodge POS and he claimed it could do about 195. He reasoned that the math says it can because redline in fifth gear would be that fast. I mentioned it probably lacked the needed power to overcome the tremendous drag at those speeds, but he wouldn't hear of it. He claimed Dodge artificially limited the top speed so as to not cut into their Lamborghini market.

Your salesman doesn't know sh*t for squat when it comes to tire ratings. W = 168mph... 134 doesn't really exist.. The closest would be H rated tires that are rated for 130mph.

Fine, a FULL SPOILER SET UP. The fact of the matter is with supercharging, NOS, Nitro, re-gearing, and some other goodies, probably tallying of 50-60K could bring a TL to over 200 on a strip. I say that engine would easily make over 1k horse power if rebuilt correctly, and I think the TLs drag factor is not so bad that it couldnt be overcome in the 200 mph department.

I've been over 150 with mine on a road course, and was surprised at how well the TL did. I had a professional driver drive it after me. He put me to shame. I didn't know what a crappy driver is was until I watched a pro do it. I have the full A-Spec kit with 265/35 Z rated tires so the speed was not an obstacle. The driver was in a Lotus Elise before mine, and said that he was shocked by the handling and the smoothness of my 6MT.
I felt bulletproof leaving the track. I had to set the cruise to keep my foot out of it.

The top speed on my car is just under 155 on the speedometer. I have done it several times and it never goes higher. I have a 2003 yamaha R1 that I modified for top speed and at 200 the engine is giving all it can. 200 on our cars will be almost impossiable but with enough money anything can be done.

What is your gearing? What have you done to the motor?
I call .

Now, if by "spoiler," you're describing sleek, aerodynamic fairing, then "maybe" it will help. I'd also say that throwing $50-60k at nearly any current production car for a one-time 200 MPH run would probably be possible.

Since I do not believe the tl generates any down force, it might decide to take a flight at 200, I have even seen it happen in NASCAR(thats why we watch, the crashes, right?). It gives you more traction to help you maintain a strait line. In a perfect situation you would need one, but I wouldnt take a TL 200 without some additional downforce(actually I would, just not mine).

Then we'd have to start a whole new thread on how to stop it.. Brembo vs. parachute?

1 tooth what in the front (up or down)? Without a turbo, you have no chance of approaching 200 on an R1. A stock R1 hits the limiter at 172 in 6th gear with a new tire. You probably went down one tooth on the front, so your top speed would be 161 mph. If, by chance, you went up on the front sprocket, the top speed would be 183. To gear for 200, you would have to go up 2 on the front and down 2 on the rear (giving a top speed of 203 at the limiter). Do you even know the stock gearing?
Even with a full system, pc and k&n, a 2003 R1 makes no more than 150 rwhp (on an optimistic Dynojet dynomameter). Less than any of the current liter bikes that do not approach 200 mph with better aerodynamics. I will conceed that most motorcycle speedometers read wildly optimisticly (usually 9% to 11%); however, they ALL have a 1 as the third digit.
Come back to reality my friend, and all is forgiven.
