top speed increase?
since the new TL stands on a wider stance and comes with wider tire, also 270 horse with six speed manual...would that increase the top speed from the previous models?
I thought the 2003's were capable of going up to 141 mph...
Maybe the new TL will go about 145-155???
I dont expect fast take off from TL, since it is somewhat heavy, but I expect quick acceleration from 2nd gear to 4th gear...my 2000 TL smoked lots of rice rockets when my car goes into 2nd gear to 4th gear.
I hope this new TL would be unstoppable when it hits over 60 mph.

As you could see on this picture taken from another print with a digital camera, it shows 153-154mph, but we hit close to 160 mph

160?
Supposedly is "limited" to 147 on 2005 models, but I recently had mine right up to the 160 mark on the dial... And yes, it's a bit sluggish off the line (compared to my '86 vette, that is!), but pulls strongly to about 135 or so...

The faster a vehicle goes, the more of a gap there will be between indicated and actual speed. A motocycle's i/a speed gap is usually greater than a car's.

One of the anomalies of driving at speed is tire growth due to centrifical forces. Granted, 150 MPH isn't all that fast the area of tire growth, but it's still a factor.
Tire growth has two affects on your speed and your handling/safety at speed: 1) a small footprint and; 2) the affect of a higher gear.
The smaller footprint will reduce handling and increase risk simply because you are putting less rubber on the pavement.
Tire growth also has the same affect of changing to a higher gear which results in less torque multiplication, but potentially, a higher speed.

As for that other thread, I am just jealous that I will never get the opportunity to do something like that. I have had my TL a year now and no one has even come close to looking like they want to race me.

dammn..crazy man..
The highest I have been in my 2002 TL-S is 120 MPH in 4th gear SS mode. It still had a lot of power left..it was between 4k-5k rpm only haha.

Sorry Ron Those dry ashen hills are nowhere in Germany, try somewhere in the southwest. BTW, there are a myriad of empty desolate stretches in that area where testing top speed is probably safer than any race track (except for the cops
