Took on an Turbocharged 240SX

Well, i'm the way to Clearwater, FL.. I'm on Rt. 60 just minding my own business. I looked at the rear view mirror and this car happens to be tailgating me. I step on it and pull into the right lane, and look over at the driver... Surprisingly this car was an '89 Nissan 240SX. So I was like.. "whatever" and continued my cruise.. but a minutes later... I hear something funny about the car... sounded like spooling.. and I come to find out.. the thing's turbocharged! So, I honk at him.. we both slow down to 40 (open road, LONG straight road, no traffic) and just took off. It's pretty crazy.. we ended up hitting 130 before shutting down. I have to admit, I was definitely impressed that he and I were pretty even. Eventually, we stopped and talked.

Here's the specs on our rides:

Me: CAI, lowering springs, headers
Him: The engine has been turbocharged using a T3/T4 .63 Stage 3 turbine with H-3 compressor, Spearco 3X7X25 intercooler, Greddy type-S BOV, Deltagate wastegate, Cartech FPR, Aerodyne 500lb/hr fuel pump, with 4x310cc main injectors, and 2x 480cc supplemental injectors driven by an SDS Extra Injector Controller. ... he was running only at 7 psi

So tell me... what do you think?... this was pretty much a draw between the both of us.

To even top it off, I killed a lightly modded '97 300SX on the way back along with a turbo-charged civic. I need that pulley.. i'm starting to feel slow again.

I'm surprised the 240 didn't beat you. it must not have been an sr20det. the 97' 300zx was definitely not a TT or you would have been his lunch. turbo'd cars are an enigma because usually you don't know if they are modded and have become a monster. good kills though. Get the pulley!!!!!!!!!

I already have the normal boltons except the UR pulley. To be honest, I was expecting the 240SX to beat me also. I figured, hey.. why not see what the car's got, you know?

The dude was boosted off of the stock engine. What's the difference betweeen the KA24DET and SR20DET? Also, he said since the car's driven daily, it's only at 7 psi, but at other times, at 15 psi; my question is, how do you raise the psi on a turbo with a boost controller? The guy showed me his, but I'm not familiar with how it works.

They did not make 300ZX's for 97 as 96 was the lastyear for 300zx's, he must be talking about a 240SX.

KA24DE is the stock engine. Add an aftermarket turbo kit and it becomes a KA24DET.

SR20DET is the engine they got in Japan. It comes with a turbo from the factory. It's not a monster motor to begin with, but it's pretty good and has a lot of potential.

Generally speaking, SR20DET (there are different versions, too) is the higher performance engine. Most hardcore 240SX guys swap in an SR20DET. But there are some nice KA24DET 240SXs out there, too.

even with the mods he has on the ka24, at 7 psi he should still make about 215-230whp. and if it's an 89, it is a singlecam ka24e.
i doubt that his engine has ever seen 15psi unless it's built. most won't make it over 10psi without a very good tune.

And some of the MOST hardcore Silvia owners do this:

~Cheers~

P.S. If you're wondering what that is, it's a MKIV motor gone single (2JZ-GTE).
