TL's and the youngin's....

I don't know if anyone has ever experienced this or not, but I did yesterday and I'm still chuckling to myself about it (and it's not even that funny!).

On my way home from work I encountered a "youngin" driving a NBP TL - no Aspec, but he did have a spoiler (oohhhh.....). LOL. Anyway...I felt like this youngin wanted to be "cool" or something. He was weaving in and out of traffic (...which is also humorous considering traffic is bumper to bumper for miles and miles, so it's not like you'd get very far...) and at each stop light he'd get beside me, in front of me, behind me...you get my point. And the last of my gracious encounter with this wanna be fast-n-furious TL driver was that he actually tried to "blow me away" from the stop light. Usually, I'm up for it if it's another type of car and I'll gun it (for a little thrill here and there). But, I didn't even go there; I thought...if this idiot thinks we're going to race....he's even a much bigger idiot than I initially thought. Hello!?@$%! We have the same freaking horsepower dumb ass! And I highly doubt he had a supercharger. Ugh!

At the end of my 7 mile episode, I thought - I'll let this youngin feel like a man, as he just psuedo-whooped up on some girl driving the same car.
Just teasing...

It's nice to see someone taking the 'high road'... I was on my way home the other day and this beautiful woman was driving a new RL... we ended up next to each other at a stoplight and when the light turned green, she gunned it for all she was worth....

It was an interesting drive home after that..

That's why parents shouldn't buy kids these cars at such a young age, they need to start off with 140 hp civics.

It kind of annoys me to hear drivers like that, especially in TLs. Gives us a bad reputation and, indirectly, drives up our insurance rates.

Maybe there's still some "youngin" in me...I'll give anyone a go if they want some...rarely do I ask for it, but if they do, I usually oblige. In the end, you win some, you lose some, but you add a little fun to the otherwise mundane drive to work/the store/etc.

Its always becuse of age huh??? I bet I know just as many 30+ year olds that do the same crap. I am 22 and bought this car with my own money. To park it in my own garage at my own house. So while I completely agree, you shouldnt be given a car like this, you should earn it, "youngins" trying to be "cool" sounds like your looking down on young people who drive these cars. I bought it because I always wanted one, because its classy and sporty. No doubt many here bought it for these reasons and if you didnt like the HP you should have saved some dough and bought an TSX. I do agree that THIS person is an idiot but dont classify only "youngins" with this behavior.

Now - I'm blushing! LMAO!

However since you brought it up...
This past Tuesday I had another experience on my way home...

First of all, you know when you drive to and from work at the exact times daily...you basically drive with the same people. Well, a few weeks ago I was beside a new Porsche convertible with a personalized plate that says "DOW JONES" (...think he's a broker?) and I saw him staring. So I went home that evening and I was telling my b/f about how he must have been checking out my ride. Didn't think much of it as I'm sure many of folk check out our TL's...until this past Tuesday when I pulled up beside this dude again; this time he is on my drivers side and my window is down. I heard him say, "Hey baby girl" and he said it again (meanwhile he's jamming to White Wedding by Billy Idol - LOL). I was SO embarressed, I had to ignore him (now if I would have been single...well, I woud have been getting those digits! HAHAHA)!!! But I just sat there at the stop light feeling very uncomfortable. It felt like that light didn't change for 10 minutes. LOL. I'm very shy when it comes to stuff like that.

But, I really do think he likes my car!

By all means, I respect people of all ages and definitely can appreciate someone your age buying a nice car and owning a home - that's awesome! I applaud you and wish I could have had a new car and home at your age, but I was too worried about going "out", shopping and paying rent.

I also agree that there are 30+ year olds out there doing the same; no doubt about it. I know my b/f (who is 37) would be that way scurrying around in his Mustang GT if I didn't bitch and lecture to him about it. However, I also like to "drive" my car, but I just think the time isn't during rush-hour traffic.

Your point is well taken my friend.

Yes it does. I actually enjoy flooring it when I know I have to stop 100yards up. Its just the rush for me, not trying to impress anyone but myself.

that you should!
No one should be denied to have fun with their machine.

My point regarding the youngin was just the way this particular person was driving. I guess you "had to be there" to fully understand what this guy was doing.

And by all means... I understand wanting to play (I'm not a prude!)...

I'll drive spirited when the urge is there, otherwise nice and slow is the way to go.

Although when I encounter a posible victim, or just want to have fun the heavy foot will gladly come out.....

Okay, - he probably was :gheyfight: . LOL.

But, for the sake of "enlightment", I'll post a year old pic of myself.......

And by the way....
We had our "annual" summer party this past weekend and some "youngins" were there who work with my b/f - they had me rollin over my car. First they were joking me about the gold emblems - ok, ok....enough is enough....I emailed the Parts Manager at my dealership first thing this morning to ask him how much it's going to cost me to get the chrome emblems back on. LOL.

Then the "youngins" were joking me about my personalize license plate: TL4KEL. Hey - it rhymes, why not? LOL. The guy who was joking me drives a Civic Si and says, "What? Am I supposed to get a plate that says: SI4DAN? hahaha. I said, "Ugh....NO!". He said it was :ghey: . Ah - you men! LOL. (just teasing!)
Personally, I don't think my plate is stupid; it works for me. Now the emblems...I can see about....

Gold emblems are a personal preference thing...don't worry if no one else likes them. The vanity plate's cool. You should've told Dan that he and his buddies could comment once he doesn't get beaten by a girl...because SI or not, he's still driving a Civic.

Oh, and I have to agree with drdamian...it ain't the gold emblems!

Good thinking. What about the "risk" you put OTHER people in, by driving, "like ya stole it"? The guy/gal on their way home from work, or the store, or where ever, was un-aware of YOUR RISK ACCEPTANCE. Try to let your little testosterone wave, subside before you get behind the wheel. Can you, for a moment, think of what it might be like, living for the rest of your life with the guilt of knowing YOU maimed, or took the life from another person, because YOU accepted some risk? Rent some track time. Give others a chance to have a life.

Thank you for the lecture dad I'm pretty sure your generalization on how you think I drive is pretty far from par. When I refer to "like I stole it", I mean I floor it when ever I get a chance. Also taking into consideration I'm city driving, and I'm not going over 50mph. I just love hearing the intake combined with the vtech.

When the speed limit is 40, is 50mph a sign your going to hell or something. What am I missing here?

Sup Kel........
I'm about to get myself a personalized plate that says "BOOSTED" But that would be a target for cops.
I drive nice and slow 99% of the time, unless I'm in a race mood.... I do find people glance at my car alot... it's the WDP TL thingy

However, I'm not a fan of gold emblems, hell I debadged the ACURA and TL emblem the day I bought my car. lol..... I drove out the dealership without any emblems on it besides the (A) on the front and back.
