TL's popularity in PA/NJ...
TL's popularity in PA/NJ...
This past Sunday we drove to Atlantic City and so while on the AC Expressway (out of bordem) I decided to count the TL's - well, I saw A LOT!
I honestly couldn't believe how many TL's there were in NJ; I mean, seriously. They're about as popular as the Accord around here as of late.
It was about every twenty cars or so (and I'm not exagerating) that there was a 3rd generation TL - and it probably would have been more frequent if I would have included the previous two gen's. But, the one "good" thing I noticed...is that out of all the TL's I saw to and from AC, I only saw TWO WDP's; all others I saw were Anthracite or NBP.
Good taste and much love for the TL around here!

Do you see a lot of TL's in your area? Here in Harrisburg they seem to be pretty plentiful...but, not quite to the extent that I saw them flowing into AC. LOL.

Yeah I do see quite a few down here. Mostly they're all stock with perhaps a sprinkle with lip spoilers. They arent as frequent as beemers though, they love their bmw's around here.

It would be interesting to find out how many TL's are actually registered in PA/NJ/NY - I have to wonder what state has the most?
if I were living in Kansas or Wyoming...would I see as many as around here; I doubt it.

I often wonder how the hell these people can afford some of their cars (..I know...a good salary, right?). The big boy 6-series and top o' the line 5's are very plentiful around here. I make a decent living and I can't afford a $60,000+ car.
However - since you mentioned it (
)...I have been eyeing them up as of late. And I have been eyeing up the 3-series; for a petite person, it is a perfect fit.
For now - I'll love and nurture my TL.

My man seems to have this idea that I pay off my TL, keep it, and then lease a 5-series for two years. Makes sense, but that's 5 years from now....

you speak blasphemy!! j/k
I used to be a bmw person. loved beemers. our first Luxury car was an 89 bmw 5 series, when that first generation with the aggressive look first came out (this redesign did it for bmw similar to how the 3g TL did it for acura). My father STILL owns the damn thing and it has like some ridiculous low mileage on it for a nearly 20 yr old car. Horribly underpowered, but man does it have a smooth ride and nice manual shifting.
Somewhere along the way though bmw lost me... price, long term maintenance, looks (omg they're ugly, all except that beautiful 6 series), and even their image (dime a dozen around here. kinda have a preppy image to me...)
^ yea i agree with above. i see so many 3 series around here that BMWs dont have that luxury quality to the brand or at least to the 3 series anymore.
when i finish paying off my TL in 3 years though, i will definitely switch over to buy the 335i.
p.s. the new beemers are definitely not ugly, IMO. if anything, the only ugly bmw is the 7 series.

I believe it was 1993 when I worked as a manager of a repossession company; I got an '87 maroon-colored 528e (I believe that was it...) that was repossessed and I bought from the bank for $4,000. I couldn't beat the price, obviously. But my goodness...when it came time for things to go wrong...it was bad. Especially because at that time I was only 22 (in 1995), making piddly-squat in salary and trying to drive an expensive vehicle; I easily afforded the payments, but to replace the timing belt back then it was $800...then the rotors went.... and a few other things in between.
But the rotors are what caused me to say, "screw that car - I'm getting a new one"...and that's when I fell in love with Honda's. I sat at a bar across the street from the garage waiting for the rotor replacement estimate and happen to be sitting beside a Honda salesman. We talked...I explained my situation and he said come visit me on Monday. That following Wednesday I drove home in my 1994 del Sol. And that's when my love affair w/ Honda's began...
So, since then I have vowed to myself that I will NEVER own a used BMW and that if I couldn't afford one brand spanking new - then I wasn't having one.
You are right on about the long-term maintenance....
But, I'm glad to hear that your father's car is still kicking!
During the week, most NJ Transit Rail station parking lots resemble Acura dealer lots....mainly due to the number of TLs (2G and 3G). At the Jersey Avenue train station (New Brunswick) 3G TLs seem to easily outnumber 7G Accords (V6 and 4 cyl)
(Then again, Jersey Avenue serves upper middle class areas like North Brunswick, East Brunswick and Franklin Township....the demographic of which tend to buy TLs and G35s anyhow.)

I just can't imagine how the town will deal with all the traffic.

Cedar Grove needs to be upgraded to a state highway NOW!!
