TL in the winter

I'm thinking of selling my truck soon, I will have to keep my boat in the water next year(Main reason for keeping the truck was the boat)....

Anyways, how many of you drive your cars in the winter, I'm from NY, I would get snow tires without a doubt, BUT I"M LOWERED. I konw its not going to be good either way but looking for a little feedback, I'm honestly not sure which springs I have they are green, I'm going to pull the random numbers off it and research it eventually....Thanks for all input guys! I'm in central NY, last year would have been easy but I have a feeling this winter shall suck.
BTW I don't owe shit on my car and my insurance is actually a little cheaper with my truck on the road because I don't carry collision or insurance on it. Trucks in great mechanical shape with rockers rusted and minor body damage. Don't let people borrow your truck!

This low....not to bad, six speed so a lil easier to control

I drive my TL in the winter.

I think most of us here do; it's not really a super car (though I know some people store their TLs).

Btw, you probably have Tein springs.

Winter tires are highly recommended.
I have Blizzak LM-60s. I'm no tire pro, but they cost me a hefty price ($1300) and they seem to do their job.

Just don't be a nice guy and pull over for someone who's in the ditch...

Got sucked right in, even though I pulled over slow. Everything happened in slow motion while I was going in lol

Shouldn't have pulled over for this lady - should have kept driving or pull up beside her car.

I live in Colorado and drive my TL yearound...I have all season Kumhos and it is decent in the snow and on ice, but not in deep snow or semi-deep wet snow. Oh yeah, I'm in Colorado and we get powder.

I plan to drive it this winter.
My previous car was an old CB7 dropped on H&R sport. It had a way more aggressive drop than my TL and it did ok.

I drive my tl all year around. Gotta buy some new shoes soon lol my tires are getting bold. I remember last two winters I was stuck on the high way ramp going up -.- but I took off traction control that did the job. Sadly I passed a SUV AWD that was stuck further up the ramp haha. Mind you our cars are FWD lol.

Mine has been through 6 Chicago winters just fine. Get winter tires, you'll do fine.

Does fine in the snow. I have a set of General Altimax Arctic's on a spare set of wheels. Best snow tires I have owned.

It's a FWD car, and as long as you realize that you should be fine. Know the limits of what it can do in terms of driving on ice/in snow.

I find the TL to be a sub par winter vehicle. I'm sure if I bought dedicated winter tires/wheels it would be better. The car has rear suspension geometry that causes it to very twitchy on less than ideal road surfaces. My 04' and my friends 08' do the same thing. The same friend also had an 07' Type-S and it was twitchy as well. It seems to be exacerbated with more weight in the back (passengers). My GF's 2000 Alero is 10 times the car in the winter than my TL. I am running Yokohama Envigor all seasons.

I've got a set of good snow tires. Stock ride hight, and stock size snow tires. I am in MN, and really love driving my TL in the winter. Its obviously not as good as my suburban, but I have no issues in driving out in just about any weather.

I thought my TL was as capable in the snow as any other FWD sedan and the only time I felt unsafe driving it was on hard packed ice, but no one was moving well then. I had Conti DWS tires and found them great on rain and snow.

I don't see why not to drive it in the winter. It should be perfectly fine.

I drove my accord on summer tires in Buffalo, NY for years. That picture is a few years old, and it eventually was a bit lower in the winter. Never got stuck, or had any issues. I almost had people rear end me 2-3 times while braking on ice, so I presume it had better traction than an average car around here on ice. Apparently bald summer tires are fine. The only real complaint was the rear end loved to wiggle around in deep snow above 50 or so.

The TL has way better ABS, and some sort of snazzy VSA that might actually help, so it's probably great with decent tires. Mine has fairly new all seasons on it that I plan on running.

My TL has done quite well in two Utah winters with DWS Conti's. We had some pretty wild snow last winter and I found myself passing people up on the freeway because they were going too slow. I'm relatively safe but don't think it's always wise to go 10mph in 3 inch snow.

Manual will help a lot if you know how to use it. Channeling the power to the wheels (or from the wheels to the engine) is key. Both for breaking, keeping traction and turning.

My TL has been fine in the winter (live in NY also). There was one winter where I was having trouble in the snow, actually had trouble getting up my own drive way one time. Then I noticed that the tread on my tires were too low. Once I got the new tires, my car was very good in the snow, no problems at all. You'll be fine.

I raise my TL up a bit and drive it during the Winter with Snow tires. It does fine, even on those early mornings when the hwy's aren't plowed yet, with the Snow tires I get through it easily. I live in snowy Minnesota.

The issue I would have with driving the TL in the snow (I won't, I have a 4WD Element 5MT) isn't with the car. I'm sure it would be decent in the snow with the right tires. The problem for me is the other drivers. People around here have a bit too much faith in their SUVs (and their own driving abilities lol), in particular they seem to think that since they have traction speeding up that they'll still have it when they slow down. No matter how good of a driver you are there are too many other people that could wreck your car for you when its snowing.

Just my two pennies.

No kidding. People assume since they have an SUV it can drive through ice/snow, but they don't learn how to drive it in the ice/snow.

I drive with these (video i made showing the power of winter tires) :

Winter tires are the ONLY way to go. Drive with confidence and not with hockey skates.

And it will ..... IF you bought the proper tires ... All Season Compound isn't suited for snow.

you will be fine with winter tires and driving with caution and common sense. snow fall that hits greater than 4 inches or so...stock clearance height is ~6 inches, turns you into a plow. i only drove my TL (when i was DD) when the roads were mostly clear of snow. it's the other idiots out on the road that concern me.

I'm in NH and the TL held up fine during the winter of '10. This last winter was rather tame. Just use common-sense at all times and you will be ok.
