TL vs BMW 330 hp?
I followed another thread about someone undecided between a 325 and a TL. I know the TL can whip a 325 but when I went to the BMW web site they list 2 hp ratings for the 330 - 225 and 255. How do you tell which is which? Also does the TL with its new hp rating has the same actual output as the higher rated BMW or is the TL more powerful if you go back to the 2005 270 rating? I'm no racer but it's nice to know in the back of my mind what I could handle if necessary.

Do you have a link to the page where it shows two different HP ratings for the 330?

225 hp is for the 2006 coupe which still has the old engine but the 2006 sedan has the new engine which is 255 hp as you stated. For 2007 the coupe will be named 335i with a new turbo engine producing 300hp. The 2007 330i sedan will probably get the same turbo engine and be renamed 335i

I always assumed the the last 2 numbers meant the engine size... 325 = 3 Series 2.5 liter engine, 330 = 3 series 3.0 liter engine.
That doesn't seem to be the case however as the BMW site lists the 325i as having a 3.0 liter engine... The 325Ci does have a 2.5 liter engine though...
You know what they say about assuming... DOH!

Yeah its crazy cuz BMW is not using the numbers as engine size anymore. Like for 2007, the 325i will be gone and replace by the 328i which still uses the 3.0 liter engine

You're exactly right. This thread needs to be in Car Talk.
Feel free to start this over there if you like. Thanks !!
