TL vs. 8th Gen Accord?

Just out of curiousity how do you guys think the 2nd/3rd Gen TL would stand up against the new Honda Accord?

Nope it has more power and torque than the base TLs.

268HP and 248TQ the TL is 256HP and 238TQ(This number is probably off)

The Accord has a 3.5L motor similar to the one in the Type-S, while the TL has the 3.2L motor.

Motor Trend ran one at 14 flat @ 102.5 mph. I've seen one other test where it broke 100, and a couple others around 14.4-14.6 @97-99 mph. Tough to say for sure. So in some tests it's a bit quicker than a TypeS 6MT and in other tests it's slightly slower than a Base TL 6MT.

depends what car it is. the 3.5 J35Z3 in the 6mt coupe is (probably) underrated (TOV dyno's had it at 260 to the hubs), while the 3.5 J35Z2 in the automatics is probably around its 268hp rating.

Yeah Honda really steped up the Accord's performance, although I doubt many people buy an Accord to speed in it.

I ran one today on 880... It was the V6 2dr coupe and we started at 50mph roll so I dropped it 2nd and we were neck to neck until 80/85 then I started to pull.. shut it down around 115 with me 2-3 car lengths ahead..Oh it was in my 3G type s..

Loving the new accords.

It's alot more aggressive looking and sport oriented now. Most mom's and pops will probably stick to the lower I4 options..but more young spirited drivers will for sure be attracted to the V6.

I want a black AV6 now!

My friend shas new Accord V6...didn't seem like it would be faster than my TL. If anything I figured they are about the same, or maybe she wasn't driving it right haha!

Actually, you have 258 according to the new SAE rating.

Probably 215 / 220 to the wheels.

As Tyler stated, you are down about 10hp (SAE net) to the 08 AV6, which is not substantial...though the 15 lb-ft edge of the AV6 might be a bit more significant.

I thought the new SAE rating oficially changed the 06 TLs rating (which I know is identical to my car) So does this mean that all 04-05 TLs technically have 258 HP? And as far as 2G TLs their HP is actually lower also right? I guess I kinda knew this but I wanted to think I still had 270 HP since I had the 05...lol.

^ yup, that's right, all 3rd gen TLs have the same engine. In theory you can say the 2nd gen TL-S has like 250hp instead of 260.

The higer output engine in the new accord is all good...

But the styling is not up to standards of say the Camry and Altima, both of which look better.

Of course the 2009 TL has to have killer looks - otherwise sales will be sliding....

^I agree.

07-08 Toyota Camry SE - Sweeeeet!
07-08 LE/XLE/Hybrid -

07-08 Nissan Altima 3.5SE - Ehh...I liked the 05-06 3.5SE better (I owned one)
07-08 Nissan Altima 2.5S/3.5SL/Hybrid -

I usually stick with stock wheels, stock Camry SE wheels are nice! Stock Altima 3.5SE wheels are also nice but I like 05-06 3.5SE wheels better. Stock Accord V6 EX-L wheels - WTF? I don't like them at all. If I ever got the Accord - 1st mod=aftermarket wheels IMMEDIATELY!

Actually, I think he's down more like 20+hp. Everything points to the Accord being somewhat underrated. TOV is saying it's a solid 280hp at the crank per their dyno testing.

test drove the v6 4 door before buying the tl-s and the base tl felt faster. I think it has alot to do with the tranny the shifts in the accord were slower and not as crisp. The tl felt like it had a little more pop. Just my .02

TL vs. 8th accord would be dead even. Its all in the weight guys. But TL-S vs new accord would be a clear winner of TL-S....

I believe at TL-S Auto is faster than an 8th gen Auto V6 due to its torque robbing VCM with no variable intake manifold.

Live IFORYOU said those are the fastest times I have seen as well and it is a drivers race between the 6mt versions.

I tested the auto in both cars. It was a butt dyno test drive only. Just felt the accord was not as crisp in the shifts and was not as snappy. I have no idea on 1/4 runs between the two but if I had to bet I would put money on the tl. I was cross shopping the accord, g35, tl, 530, and the camry. I know it is wide price range. For me the accord had horrible styling, it looks like a hyndai product. The steering wheel was nice but the isolation from the road was one step below the camry which is very isolated. Not what I wanted.

That's right. The 3g TL-S Auto has been dynoed with the following:

Stock - 240whp
+ AEM, PR2, UR, OE - 249whp
+ ATLP Exhaust - 261whp
+ ATLP J-pipe - 273whp

RV6 Pre-Cat deletes coming soon.... hopes of 280whp

Dynojet Winpep

^From 3g forum by Blackura.

The AV6 5AT only has 211whp I believe according to TOV. But that number is from a non-broken in car so I'd imagine 220whp is possible and with premium gas probably 225? But even so, thats less than a 3g auto TL-S and both are about the same weight.

a guy on VTEC.net dyno'd around 225whp with his 8th gen Auto. I forget what his name was. He said he used premium gas since he bought it.
