TL type S help..

Hey guys, I just signed up hoping I could get some help finding a used TL or TL type S. I've been looking for a few weeks and found it hard to come by a used TL type S. I've found one and ran a CARFAX report on it and it came back clean, but still a little skepticle about it. Here's a link to the car I've been eyeing up for a few days

http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp?paId=136918517

Does this seem like an average price for these cars these days with such low miles? I've been reading and it seems like their still more towards low 30's high 20's with atleast 30-40K miles on them? Any help would be appreciated and I hope I can become part of the community in the near future. Thanks guys.

Yea that seems about rite. I'm sure you can always bargain down alil more. But before you do anything it says there are 7 reports on the carfax report look into that before doing anything!!!!

7 is a big number for a year old car

Thanks for the link fix. I've looked over the carfax account already, it was all basically for emissions inspections, and being sold to a dealer. I'll have to get in contact with the dealer. I just wasn't sure how much these cars will go for these days.

Nate,

That is a steal of a deal. If it's real, jump on it. I would have guessed that it has a salvage title at that price but you say that it has a clean carfax. I would definitely have it inspected by a reputable mechanic or the Acura dealer.

I bought a Carbon Bronze Pearl 2007 Type S Auto w/ 18k miles in early December for $25,500 and thought I got a great deal then (still do) so if you can buy that car for under $23k and it doesn't have any issues, that's a great buy.

Let us know what you find out.

Al

I checked the inventory listed on his website and he has two 2008 TL's, one with 5k miles one with 2k miles, for $22,900. Those have to be salvage title as well.

For a manual TL-S, that's a great price....almost too good. I'd be sure to CarFax it and make sure everything is okay. Manual TL-S cars are hard to find (I'd know, as I had to settle for an auto), especially in black. If it checks out on CarFax, I'd ask the dealer for the car's history, if all seem kosher, go for it....it's an awesome price.

Heck, let me know if you don't buy it...I may trade my auto TL-S on it ;-)

I ran the VIN's on those two 08's and both of them have Slavaged, Rebuilt titles.. I'm almost thinking this TL-S is also the same and just wasn't reported to CARFAX. The only thing I see that maybe be a little fishy is the last mileage reported was at 408 miles. Would that mean anything after that wouldn't be reported either?

The only thing Is I can't really do anything about it. I live in Duluth, MN and it would be hard to just go and test drive it, without having to buy a plane ticket and wasting all that money, I guess if it doesn't seem like a good vehicle once I see it in person. Feel free to go and test drive it for me . I suppose I'll have to get as much information from the dealer over the phone or email.

Nate,

If the other two '08's are salvage, I can almost guarantee you this one is also. The price is just too good to be true. Maybe it hasn't hit carfax yet. Just ask the dealer - they will usually be up front about it.

I bought my car long distance too. I had the seller (a small used car dealer) take the car to an Acura dealer and I paid Acura to do a thorough pre-purchase inspection for me (cosmetic as well as mechanical). Cost me $100 but well worth it. After it checked out 100%, I flew down to inspect and test drive it myself, then bought it and drove it home (about 750 miles).

Good luck in your search.

I'll either just find an A spec, with navi instead of going with the TL-S. I'm just having a difficult time finding one for under $25K. Thanks for all the help guys. I'll see what the dealer says about the car if they email me back tomorrow. I'm still hoping this is a deal of a lifetime lol. I'll probably take your advice on asking them to take the car to an Acura dealer for a full inspection, that's a great idea.

I remember that this same dealer had a MRP 07 Type-S for about the same price with about 3k miles. I ran a CARFAX on it and it had a salvage title from flood damage. However, their listing didn't mention salvage title. I would avoid them.

Carfax isn't 100%. Stuff has to be reported in order to show up in their system. I had a 92 VR-4 that showed a "clean carfax," but was actually wrecked harder than the Titanic! The only way to tell for sure is to look over the car in person.

The TL is really easy to check for paintwork or damage: stock body panels will have the VIN sticker on them. If this sticker is there, you know it's a body panel that was with the car from the factory.

^^^^ Very Much agreed, Before I picked up my new TL Type S the dealer wanted to sell me a semi new TL for really cheap, it was clean and everything, carfax was clean, but when i checked the car, the paint in the driver door and the front fender were a little different, and i complained to the sales guy and the manager that it was a fraud..

I've checked on a few vehicles that I knew were in accidents and they did have a clean CARFAX, so I can see that it's not 100% accurate. If I decide to actually go to the dealer sometime soon. I'll see if I can take it to an Acura dealer to get inspected as mentioned above. I also found another one but they didn't list a price.

I have contacted the dealership and was told that the car had flood damage. There was standing water up to the interior carpet, I was told that the seat and carpet were pulled, cleaned and inspected. He also said that one of the wheels has been curbed up and there is a scratch on the front bumper. I just don't like the idea of buying a car with a salvage title IMHO.

If you think about how many reservations you have on buying a salvaged car, just think about how hard it would be to sell it when it's older and has more mileage!!!

You mean the Black one. I haven't posted a KBP one. Only the black one and the white one. I supposed I'll keep the search out. I don't want to rush into this, I'll just have to be patient and something should hopefully come up before spring time hits. If anyone sees a 07 TL-S in there area post it up in this thread . Or even a 06+ TL A-spec would be nice, with navi and low miles. Thanks again for helping me out guys.

Are you looking 6 speed, or no preference? You could try Carmax... I know that's where I found mine!

Nate,

My advice to you is to be patient, set realistic goals for year and mileage vs your budget, check craigslist, autotrader, and cars.com regularly, and when the right car does come along, act fast. And have the car thouroughly checked out before you buy. And expand your search area to increase your chances.

Good luck.

I don't really have a prefeerence. I know their is an advantage to having the 6 speed, but I've never driven a manual more than a handful of times, and I don't want to ruin the transmission, or clutch on a new car, but it would be a good trait to learn.

Thanks Al. I'm not sure if my goal is realistic to find a TL-S for $25K out the door or under with 40K miles or less, I may have to wait a few years to get that but with higher miles. I'm not picky I guess, I do like the look of the TL-S and I also like the look of just the normal TL.

My budget as mentioned above is $25k or under 40k miles or less, either in black or white, navi, interior isn't a big deal but would prefer to be black leather.

Well I think I finally found the one I've been looking for (link below) I'm not sure if this is a good price or if I would be able to hassel them for a little cheaper, what do you guys think? This car is from a Acura Certified Pre Owned dealer, so I'm guessing if the CARFAX is clean, and they've done the 150 point inspection, I shouldn't have any problems if it has passed, correct? I'm going to go and test drive a few tomorrow afternoon.

http://duluth.carsoup.com/used/detai...groupid=1&vc=1

Also might take the Type S for a spin to. Same scenerio as the above, from the same dealer, clean CARFAX.

Haha, a little biased are we. I was thinking that was well. I'm a sucker for white though, I've always liked the look of them, but I now have found a decent TL-S that doesn't have a salvaged title.

That's lower than KBB trade-in. Makes me wonder what's wrong with it.

I've noticed the same thing also. It has a clean CARFAX and passed the 150 point inspection by ACURA. I'll test drive it tomorrow and take a closer look at it tomorrow when I go drive it.

Haha, If I only I could afford that. take 10k off that price and I'll be down tomorrow.

Well, went and drove a few cars yesterday and this is the one I really want. I think it's a really steep price. They want $27,600 out the door, that comes with a 7/100K power terrain warranty, or bumer to bumper, I can't remember which one he said. This is the car.

Hi all. Bought (two weeks ago) brand new TL-S (Carbon Bronze), for $30.9K. Dealer had two 2008 TL-S on the lot. Silver with 1K+ miles (I test drove that one) and the Carbon Bronze. They were offering the silver for same price, though may have gotten a bit more off if I pushed on that one. Took the Carbon Bronze. First two weeks, love it.
