TL Type-S Front Brake Pads

I'm confused... I've searched a lot of postings on this topic. I see various ceramic pads recommended, etc. However, I just went to try to get pads put on via my favorite, truly trustworthy mechanic and they said there are no aftermarket ceramics available for the Type-S AT... Only metalics are available.

So what I am missing here?

Is it that for the stock rotors, only OEM pads or metalics are spec'ed? Is that the deal? You have to upgrade the rotors to deal with the higher temps of the ceramic pads?

U can still use the same rotor, just resurface it..

For pads, OEM Brembo pads are good but dusty, so you might want to find a pad that u like that is ceramic, so there is less dust.

Hawk HPS are pretty good pads..less dust with a good bite hot or cold. But some have complained about some brake noise..but its hard to prevent that unless u are using oem pads

I recommend you stick with the OEM Brembo pads.

We both called around to all of the major auto-parts stores. Their computers all were either reporting only OEM pads or nothing... So none of the parts retailers have a clue?

Locally you may not be able to find the ceramic, but check with excelerateperformance.com, or with heeltoeauto.com. Both are vendors for AZ and have a good selection of pads. You can look in the Off Topic area under "Sponsored Sales & Group Buys" to see if they have any deals running.

Thanks...

Thanks for the comments. I didn't hear a definitive answer, but It seems that people are not having problems with putting ceramic pads in the OEM Brakes with OEM Rotors.

I recently replaced my front OEM pads with Monroe Ceramics for $60. Got them at Baxter Auto Parts which I believe is part of the Checkers chain.

Your mechanic is flat out wrong - there are lots of aftermarket ceramic pads out there and they can be used with the stock rotor. In fact, arent't the OEM pads ceramic?

OEM Brembo pads are semi-metallic.

Plenty of ceramic pad choices out their if you search around.

I just bought and installed some Rotora cermaic pads and Rotora rotors from excelerateperformance.com. Install was not super easy compared to other cars I've done, but not all that tough.

After install I took them for a ride to break them in, and when I got back to the house noticed smoke from the wheel wells. Not to fear, it was just the oils and junk burning off. I put 800 miles on them this weekend and noticed that initial bite is not as great as the OEM Brembos, but the dust is a LOT less, and they are quite quiet.

ANY ceramic pad, unless the car comes equipped with them to begin with, is an upgrade and most chain-stores won't carry them.

I recently went through 2 sets of those and despite excellent braking power as good or better than the OEM's, I couldn't stand the squealing. That finger nail on a blackboard sound just went right through me. Monroe sent me a set of their Semi-metalics which make no noise, but have braking power that pales in comparison.
