TL tucking!!! TEIN Suspension!!!

Mods don't move to the gallery just yet please, lets discuss this...

I came across this gallery on Acurainspired... this guy claims TEIN used his TL to prototype coilovers for the TL...

http://www.acurainspired.com/gallery...=993&uuid=1098

I wonder what they used for shocks/struts!

That is awesome until you start driving it on real streets with dips, potholes, bumps, and driveways.

Huh?

What are we supposed to be looking at?

What is a TEIN?

What is awesome. It looks like a TL to me.

well he says ""TEIN Used my car to develope this coil over system." "

so those could be put down all the way... you can certainly raise it to your liking

TEIN is a suspension parts company, like H&R, Comptech, Eibach, etc etc

Tein is a company that makes suspension components. They make a coilover (spring/shock combo) system and are apparently testing it on the TL. The difference in the TL in the pic is that it's much lower than normal.

How much do they charge for suspension kits usually? And does anyone else have any comments on TEIN?

Thank you all... for the explanation

But, but, but....

Aw, forget it. I guess I'm just getting old. I don't get it. I don't get rap music either.

What I notice about the first picture is the groves rubbed into the tire from it hitting the fender whenever you hiccough <hic>. It looks like you could drive over a dime and tell whether it was heads or tails.

The TL rides so nice and taught as is, why, oh why, would someone want to mess with it? Do you appreciated the sophisticated double wish-bone racing suspension that is already on there?

I bet it has 5" fart cans in the back. Round, even. :sqnteek:

Harrumph!

Too low for me...

Can't be more than 4" of ground clearance - maybe less. It sure would be embarassing to have to call a tow truck because I grounded my car on a speed hump at work. Or to have my car bottom out taking people out to lunch.

Buy hey, to each his own. I sure we'll hear how this setup is "hella better than stock" and "kicks A-Spec ass" and "handles better than Comptech and Eibach combined". After all, lower cars handle better!

:sqntfawk: I mean why take away the off-roading option by lowering it... right?

Does off roading include obstacles like speed bumps, pot holes, and driveways?

If you'd like it to, it's whatever you want it to include, it's not like you can't avoid all of those things.

I can just imagine telling my co-workers: "Sorry. Although my car cost over 30K, and has four doors, I can only carry one passenger. Having two people in the back seat would make the car too low for us to get out of the parking lot."

But at least it will look good. Your backseat floormats will get less wear as well as your rear seats... It's a win-win situation.

the ignorance here is truly surprising....

first, you're a fool if you think he's driving around like this on a daily basis

second, these pics were probably shown to display how low one COULD go (not sayin you want to)

third, these are COILOVERS, i.e. springs, attatched to ADJUSTIBLE perches that allow you to adjust ride height.

the TSX like the TL is a luxury, or heck for arguments sake, entry level luxury sedan. Does that stop honda from tuning the TSX with better suspension and engine mods to increase performance? NO!

For those who don't know what TEIN products are or their functionality, shut your mouth before you go critisizing it!

I agree. The Tein decal doesn't appear to follow the contour of the wheel well lip.

You're right on all accounts. All kidding aside, Tein is a very respected suspension company - very well known in import tuning/racing circles. They make a good product.

The ride height is adjustable. A lot of Tein kits are adjustable with a range of "very low" and "very, very low", but to their credit the '04 TL kit has a nice range from about 1" to 2.5". The car pictured is definitely closer to 2.5. The specs are now posted on Tein's website. Here's the link to help combat further ignorace: http://www.tein.com/acura.html

How far would you go?

Bobby,

I am curious...

If you got a new Mercedes-Benz Maybach, would you pimp it out?

How about a Lamborghini or Ferrari?

Is there a line over which you would not go? Is there any car you would leave alone or would you prefer to make ghetto crawling pimp-mobiles out of all cars?

PS: I am using the term "pimp" as that is what the owner uses on his pic's posting.

I used to drive around a car that low on a daily basis. I still haven't gotten used to NOT scratching my nose on every driveway and dip that I don't take at a 45 degree angle. The ride was absolute shit, but the car looked so bitchin' I almost didn't care. Coilovers are pretty effective for looks only. I can't see how you could get a solid ride out of a suspension that low.

Feel free to inform me otherwise.

But the point of the whole exercise is that coilovers are supposed to be adjustable. Most people I know who have this setup are doing it for a car show, then raise the level for actual driving.

Definitely not my cup of tea, but a lot of people enjoy this; more power to them!.

I think is BS.

The mounts are the same, except the upper pillow mount, but it does not matter because teins uses the stock upper mounts.

I think he is using the 99-03 teins. It sells for around $900 for all 4.

Same goes for the rear the mounts are the same.

Teins are adjustable coilovers and shocks (damper rate) 16 way I believe.

Here you could see pictures of the shocks avalible for 99-03 TL. The BG's are only for <98

http://www.autocarparts.com/cars/Acu...ion/Coilovers/

The zeal will not work with 04, because it comes with their upper mounts, wich have to be modified to fit the 04 TL.

info for your benefit

My 2nd Gen TL is lower than that with TEINs and I can set it to ride the same if not better than stock at that height... The TEINs will basically let you set up your suspension to any way you want it, cushy or stiff...

I have absolutely no problems driving my car at this height either, no matter how many passengers I have in my car. You just have to be a little more careful.
