TL is total loss. Wear your seat belts.

A few days ago my wife and I were struck by a man who ran a red light with his head lights off in the dark. We were going 45 mph and so was he, and we hit at the front end.

For anyone wondering, there is no doubt the TL is a safe car. My wife and I walked away from this collision. Granted we have a lot of pain and soreness, and she has a broken sternum and broken ribs, we are doing OK.

We were on vacation, so we flew back home and I started car shopping. We have decided on a 2005-2008 Subaru Outback XT. We drove every kind of 5 star sports and luxury sedan on the market, and it seems with out kayaking, mountain biking, two dogs, backpacking, camping, and fishing, that the Subaru is the vehicle for us. I loved the TL, and that car was atop our list until I drove the Outback with the bigger motor. Just sucks that they are so hard to find with the turbo here in Florida. No way could I go with a regular 4 banger after having this TL.

Thanks for Acura's engineers for designing a great, safe car. I can say with 100% certainty that the next sedan we buy will be an Acura.

Here's a pic of our car after the wreck.

Yeah, we're very lucky.

Sucks because I just put $1000 worth of Michelin rubber on the wheel last month. FRICK!

Tell the insurance company about the new tires. They should give you some kind of credit.

That looks bad, good your ok. This is about the 5th crashed TL I've seen in the last three weeks and all of the owners walked away and says the TL is a very safe car.

Glad to hear you and your wife fared well in that collision. I have to wonder if the other driver was also drunk or impaired in some other way. Subarus are great cars-having an Outback prior to the TL The Outback was always my choice in bad weather- it just seemed very solid. Best of luck in your next car and I hope you never need to test a 5-star safety rating again.

WOW, thank God you guys walked away ok from this, I would have to say The TL is very safe; I have been in a position that is similar to yours. but my was that my whole driver side was taken apart from an 18 wheeler that "didn’t see us". But bull my dad is a truck driver and he said you can feel anything.

You both should have installed an AEM cold air intake. I hear they also ward off accidents (j/k). I've gone almost a year so far without a scratch.

Seriously though, good too see everyone walking away with their health from those nasty wrecks.

Holy Smokes! Your well being is #1 God's blessing and #2 a testament to great Honda engineering. Honda"s large sedans have been safe for some time. My first car, a 1988 Acura Legend was totaled when an 18 wheeler side swiped me. I walked away soar, but without a scratch. And that car didn't even have any airbags!!! That was my favorite car until i got my 3G TL. We love these cars for a reason.
I'm glad your story had a somewhat happy ending.
