TL Tires.... F1 GS-D3?

Has anyone tried The Eagle F1 GS-D3 by Goodyear on their TL?

They supposed to be better than Bridgestone S03 Pole Position right? according to tirerack

I'm placing my order soon. I've done my homework and it sounds like a great tire.

Daviddww,

Could you please post pics and let me know what you think once you got your tires on and tested out.

Those are also the tires I planned to purchase.

Thanks

The Eagle F1 GS-D3 US$154 each
BD Potenza S03 Pole Position US$182 each

price from www.tirerack.com

It seems to me that F1 GS-D3 is cheaper and yet better than S03 Pole... what is the thread life on F1 GS?

It's depend on what size you getting. The F1 GS-D3 245/40/ was listed at Tirerack for 212$ and the 255/40/18 was 217 each.

I don't think it has rim protectors on them. The OEM 18's are a half inch wider than the stocks and the tire is less than a half inch wider than the stock tire, so the rim will be even more exposed than the originals.

I will post them when I get them installed next week. I am ordering the rims today from Norm.

From Tirerack:

On the inside, twin high-tensile steel belts are reinforced with spirally wound nylon to distribute the vehicle's load across the tire's footprint to provide high-speed durability and uniform ride qualities. Slightly angled body ply construction with high ply turn ups enhance steering precision and high-speed stability while exterior sidewall rim flange protectors help guard wheels from curb damage.

rkilian,

What's your rims width? 8" or 8.5"? Do you have a close up pic of the wheel?

Thanks.

I have the F1s, 4Kmi on my 6sp TL now. I had S03s and Michelin Pilot Sports (summer) on my 330i. The F1s are by far the quietest. The S03s were noisy. They tramlined. They didn't last worth a damn. They rode hard. Great dry performance but they were miserable to live with. The Pilots were quieter, still harsh and still very good performance. They drifted a little more predictably. The breakaway was more predictable. The F1s, on the TL, which makes a lot of difference, are quiet, firm, good grip, etc. It's hard to compare the limit characteristics of the tires becaus the limit characteristics of the cars are so different. Suffice it to say that they turned the TL from a wobbling beast with the EL42s into a very manageable cornering device. The TL's comfort limit is higher than the 330i but it's absolute limit is not as secure. It is just plain 100% better than a G35 at the limit. With these tires, it is very predictable and won't do anything weird like the G35 does with it's tail. Took it up Hwy 41 to Yosemite yesterday and really lit it up in a few sweepers where it will just do a weird 4 wheel, 45deg drift at the limit. A little throttle off will bring the tail out slightly. Obviously no power tail out like the bimmer or power spin out and die like the G35.

I've had mine about 1 month and 1000 miles. Reasonably quiet, seem good in the rain. Rim protector is not as large as some, but seems OK.

Got tire and wheel package from Tirertack. 18 X 8 and 235 size. See link below for pix. Waiting for Comptech springs.

I bought the Bridgestone pole positions and i am a bit mixed about the tire should i switch to the Goodyear F1 GS-D3? I have a 30 day trial with the present tire. Will I get a little better ride quality with the Goodyear. By the way what kind of wheels do you have on your car rkilian, they look great. Are they from Tire Rack, if so, they look a lot better than on their wheel site. I lease my car but after seeing your wheel and tire combo, I am tempted to plunk down some more money for the 18's. Thanks for the great pics.
