TL and tall drivers
TL and tall drivers
Hi,
Looked at the 07 TL-S the other day & comparing it to the Infiniti G35. I hope to drive both later this evening.
Wonder whether tall drivers find this car comfortable in the long run. I'm 6'4", about 220 llbs and fairly wide at the shoulders.
I sat in the TL-S and the headroom felt ok, and did feel roomier than the G35.
I'll know more after the test drive, but my first impression of sitting in the TL and the G35 was that the TL just felt better and more comfortable. The cockpit of the G35 seemed more cramped, particularly in terms of headroom.
I spend a lot time in the car so comfort and convenience is a big factor for me.
Thanks for any help - JR

I'm a just under 6'1", so not quite the same, but I find the TL ('07 TL-S) to be VERY comfortable. This is true for both short and long drives.
As a matter of fact, after a reasonable amout of time driving the '07, I find the 2G TL-S and my Impala RepMobile to be incredibly UNcomfortable.
The only problem I have is my right knee tends to rest against the center console - where it sweeps up toward the radio. On longer trips this becomes irritating . However, I have this problem in the other cars too. The '07 is slightly better because you can pull the steering wheel out farther. That allows the seat to go back a little with the same arm reach.

im 6'4" and the only problem i have in the car is hitting my right knee on the radio knob while leaning back resting while im parked. other then that, it isnt an issue while driving at all. i have my seat all the way back and can comfortably reach everything. i've got tons of headroom and find the TL to be very comfortable.
since you are fairly wide at the shoulders, you may want to get a feel for the seats. i've heard some people who have wide shoulders are a tiny bit uncomfortable in the type-s seats cause of the side bolsters being so prominent. i actually love how they feel but im pretty skinny and am wanting a seat to cradle me more then my 04 seats. thats the only thing i would be worried about if i were you.

i'm 6', 220 lbs and fairly wide at the shoulders also and have had no problems getting comfortable while driving. the aforementioned knee/console problem is nothing new to me. every car i've owned had that problem. the only other thing about the interior is i keep whacking my left elbow on the interior piece below the b-pillar. first sedan i've owned in awhile, i'm used to the longer doors on coupes. i absolutly love the seats.
i also test drove a G35 and found the cockpit to be cramped with poor visibility towards the rear.

have been looking at both as well, i'm 6'4" 200+, took 3 test drives in the g35 before really deciding shoulder room was big enough problem for me to take it off the consideration list. i might have gotten used to it but not willing to risk for 30k
just from test drives i've no complaints on tl

It's because the TL is roomier a bit is due to the fact it's made for the US market only and thus made in Ohio. The G35/G37 is made in Japan and is sold as the Nissan Skyline there and is made for both the Japanese market and imported here as the G35. The Japanese people aren't as tall or fat as us Americans so the interior is made a little smaller than the TL. If you thought the G35 was not that roomy, try sitting in a TSX its even smaller than the G35. Japanese and Euros don't like big cars.
I must say the TL is a very comfortable car, I have driven my father's A8 and Q7 and A4 and I must say they aren't all that spectacular.
The Q7 is the better of the three Audis, though. The worst part about the A8 is that even though there is plenty of room, there are way to many seat adjustments that its next to impossible to seat yourself comfortably. I don't understand why there is a 10 way adjustable seat, it's pointless.

I'm 6'3 and a bit, and 206 lbs, I fit in my TL perfectly. My girlfriends dad has a 2005 G35 and its wayyy too cramped! On a 7 hour road trip from Calgary to Kelowna is enough to die over.

Long story short if your short get the TL-S and if your tall defenitly get the TL-S.
2009 REDESIGNED TL TYPE S WILL COME AWD WITH A 3.7 VTEC ENGINE WITH 320+ HRS PWR AND IS GOING TO SPANK EVER CAR IN ITS CLASS(IS 350,G37,335i) AND ONCE AGAIN BE ON TOP.

I'm 6'1" 210lbs and get most of my height from the waist up. I have tons of headroom in the TL. My shoulders are very wide for my height and I have plenty room. This was the main thing that discourages me to look at cars like the IS350. In my friend's IS, with the seat as low as it can go, if we hit a bump or I stretch out, my head hits the roof. Hell, the TL has more interior room than my Buick. A friend of mine who played college football and is 6'5" 280lbs was very impressed with the room in my car. He has stuck to trucks due to his size but says he might look at a TL.
6'7" 250lbs, 37 in inseam. 26K on my first 06 TL and 5K on thr 07 TLS. 2-3 500mi round trip weekends a month and a 1200mi roadtrip. You can't beat this car for a big man. Its a blessing for us not wanting an SUV or truck.
And the seat isn't all the way back...

And: You don't buy a TL, or any other car in this class, for the rear seat legroom. This car is meant for the driver and front-seat passenger...rear riders are merely a "bonus". If you need significant rear-seat legroom, get a Toyota Avalon.
TL or TLs will fit you better than the Gs, @ 6'4" +/-, 195 and have driven a bunch of TLs, drive a TSX now and find it more comfortable than the G35 and 37....They let me have a G35 coupe over night and had to take it back as did not fit...Tried the G35 sedan and same thing, found it too confining...
6'7", 200 lbs (they call me "slim"
).
During my test drives of the TL-S, I found it to be just as comfortable as my '04 TL. My right knee does rest on the aluminum trim of the center console, but it's not an issue.

6'3" and 215 lbs. TL fits perfectly. Regular G35 was good, G35S (which was absolutely necessary for me with 6MT) was horrible. The sport seats in the G35S had theigh and side bolsters that wouldn't adjust wide enough for me, which resulted in me sitting on the seat instead of in it.
I'm 6'5", 240 lbs, I find the TL to be very comfortable, my previous car was a Volvo S80. The TL is just as comfortable to me, and I don't drive with the seat all the way back.
Being really tall has it's advantages, you just spread your knees to lock yourself into position and take a sharp corner, holds you right in there.

6'5" 215 fit great
I am 6'5" 215 with very broad shoulders and have no problems. the only annoyance is the right knee resting on the silver trim as mentioned by others, but it happens in any car. (have better leg room in my TL than I do in my full size SUV)
6'7" and 230 lbs, 36 inseam and I'm very comfortable in my TL. My head is high in the window, but I usually slouch and have the seat tilted back a little. The G35 for me was just a little too tight, but I haven't sat in the new model though. My previous car was a 3.5 Altima and I loved that car. It has a little more room than the TL. I could stretch my legs straight out. If I take my shoes off in the TL I can stretch my legs out under the pedals, but I didn't have to do that in the Altima.
