TL stock security system - Sufficient
TL stock security system - Sufficient
Around 2:15 AM EST the alarm went off. It was so loud it woke my roomate. He looked out his bedroom window and saw the subject reaching in the driver side window of the TL. He proceeded down the stairs loading his shotgun.
He woke me up and we both went outside. The radar detector was down in the driver seat.
The stock alarm in the TL is extremely sufficient.
1. It awoke my roomate.
2. The criminal was seconds from being shot at.
3. The getaway car was seen. (green nissan quest)
4. The subject left the scene from fear of being caught.
5. Two(2) other households came out to see what was going on.

What state do you live in, in MA I don't think we can use deadly force to protect our stuff. Was the window broken? The only time I have triggered my fathers alarm was when the window was rolled down and I pulled up the lock or when I held down the door sensor and locked the car, then released it.
Um, think again. The alarm sucks - here is why:
- No glass sensors
- No impact sensors
- Fixed alarm code (non-rolling) - FM signal can be captured
- If the door lock is picked (not slim jimed) the alarm becomes disabled
If you do a search on this site, you will see there are several of us who have experienced break-ins with NO ALARM SOUNDING. I've had to install an after market alarm, which won't stop the thiefs from picking the lock, but now I at least have an alarm that sounds. It sucks because I can't leave ANYTHING in my car. These people are not trying to take the Navi, seats, airbags, etc. they are simply grabbing what they can and moving on to the next Acura - so I wouldn't call them professionals. BTW - a loaner TSX that I had also was broken into.
I live in a good neighborhood in SF (Noe Valley) but I park my car outside (usually right in front of my house/bedroom window) - so do all the audi/lexus/mercedes owners and it seems like its the Acuras that are getting hit. I also don't have some false expecation that cars cannot be broken into - my issue is that there is technology out there that should be incorporated into the Acura alarm system that would make it more difficult to break in. Oh and ACS really doesn't care - they simply say that the alarm is designed to sound when there is unauthorized entry into the vehicle via the doors. Well, several of us have had unauthorized entry without the alarm sounding . . . nice.

Years ago, I did a report in college about Firearms in the Home. My research managed to dig up a few little tidbits about Massachusetts. Seems the fine people of that state have a duty to retreat.. even in their own homes!! Seems the representatives of Massachusetts don't know their asses from third base. Retreating is fine, IF you have the time and where-with-all to do this safely. But there are times you do not.. and in your home, that dog don't hunt. Turning your back and retreating could get you killed. Cover is a good thing. Exposure to fire is not.
Here in Virginia, not only do we NOT have a duty to retreat, but we can defend our property with force of arms if necessary. However, as a prudent man, I would caution that discretion is the better part of valor. Using deadly force to protect your car, in some areas of this state, might have a hard time in court to defend against some liberal prosecutor who could have the un-American and idiotic idea that citizens have no business with firearms, and hasn't a clue what the Founders envisioned.
If the guy stops his attempts at stealing your car and decides to come at you with a tire iron or some other weapon, shoot him. If you scare him away, let him run into the arms of the police.. you'll be glad you did. If he has just managed to start your car and begins to leave the scene, shoot the tires if the car is close enough for this, otherwise shoot the lower portion of the trunk lid. This little action can make the car much easier spot as being stolen with bullet holes in the body.
Finally, use caution when leaving your home with a weapon to comfront a felon in the act. Not only could this get you killed, it could also be hard to defend against in a court of law.
