Question TL SmartBuy in NY

Has anyone purchased the TL throught the "SmartBuy" program in NY State? I was wondering what the monthly payments are like and your thoughts on "SmartBuy". If anyone reads the NY Daily News, the TL is always advertised for $2995 down and $319 a month for 42 months on the SmartBuy program.

Thanks

Justin

Justin,

I haven't done it ( I leased my car in NJ in November) but a smartbuy is just like a lease except your name is on the registration not the leasing companies. I read the Daily News all the time and have seen this ad. If you compare these figures to a no money down lease the price is about 390 per month plus tax. The residual or the 42nd payment or ballon payment is the same amount as my lease. This comparable to the lease payments that I have seen mentioned here.

Jidi,

If you can get that deal jump on it right away. But the chances are that there's some kind of a catch to it--those numbers just dont compute, even on a non-navi TL and with 12k/yr. Also, it's not such a good idea to put money down when leasing.

From what i know the 319 is for non navi models, and i almost garuantee tax is not included in that price. For my car at a price of 33445, thats a navi and hpt, with the tax out of pocket, for 42 months, with 3.9%, its 438. With smart buy you have to pay the tax and interest in the full amount of the vehicle not just for your term, and usually its a little cheaper than standard leasing, but not sure why. It is based on a final balloon payment of the residual value of the car for its term. Exactly like a lease except you get the title for the vehicle, after term you pay the final balloon payment, finance that amount or turn in. You have the option to sell the car at any time. Your paying the tax and interest on the full amount so if the car is worth more than residual at the end buy it and if its worth less turn in.

something seems wrong with those numbers. $319 is way too low! I'd go into the dealer that has it advertised, and see if it's for real.

Check for a stock # in the ad if there is its probably for one or two in stock that they are having a hard time getting rid of, i think the longer it sits in dealership the less money they make on it, through incentives and such. Also it might say tax not included, and would bring the price up a bit. I have seen TLs advertised for 299 a month. Turns out its a demo, requires 3000 down and without the tax, and only have one in stock, but they dont tell you that they make you read the fine print, its just to get you in the door.

The numbers are real and the are advertised all over NY because the 33K model is so over produced. So they need to dump them. I just picked up my TL and evn though the one I got has NAV before I decided on that one I had negotiated on the other model. So buy it and enjoy it.
