TL sank in the river

Here is an article about a woman (God rest her soul) who flipped her TL in the river.

I'm not sure how this happened, but the Police are saying that "speed was a factor", while the witnesses say the car went airborn, and then flipped sideways into the river.

I've driven that section of freeway many times, at speeds at or greater than what they allege she was driving. The TL (I'm sure many would agree) is pretty stable at speeds, and can't imagine how this accident could've happened.

I don't know, I guess I just get sick and tired of how everyone always cries that speed kills, and the next thing you know, Oregon has the lowest speed limits on the west coast.

Wow. That sucks.
Those guardrails look a little puny/small for being next to a river...

That's really awful to read about. to the driver. I agree, there must have been another factor, perhaps a tire blew out at speed. This happened to me when I was young many years ago--tire blew out at speed and my resulting overcorrection led directly to a multiple rollover accident. I walked away, though, with only scratches.

it's funny to catch typo's in news articles

" The carsh happened along a bend in the interstate, and authorities say speed likely played a roll."

I, also, have driven that stretch of I-84 dozens of times, and would feel perfectly safe at speeds of 80 or even 90 mph. Odds are that she blew a tire or hit some debris in the roadway. Really sad.

Geez ya'll sound like a buncha hens that thing the almighty TL/TSX can save your ass in a hairy situation?

I dunno, but I bet there isn't a car made that won't kill you.

In my short ownership, I can give you half-a-dozen instances where I coulda ate it in my TL.

Definitely a TSX... There is no signature TL 'character line' on the wreck they are pulling out of the river.

Totaly sucks for the woman and her family, but I'd have to agree with other posters..... The TL and/or TSX should've been ok in that situation, handling-wise. I have to believe that there were other factors at work here.

I wasn't saying the TL/TSX is almighty and you can't die in one. I was just saying that I hate how government/advocacy groups/etc always cry that speed kills, and blames everything on speed.

You report to NHTSA that some drunk guy driving 60 in a 45, ran a red light, and kills somebody... Then because speed is listed as a factor, it is used as reasoning to justify other things. Even though the actual cause was running a red light, and perhaps drunk driving.

Corollary does not equal Causality. That's my biggest pet peeve with these things.

Speed is typically a major factor in most cases, sad but it puts blame square on the driver... You should visit the Department of Natural Resources websites and view the death statistics on ATVs, Snowmobiles, etc... Speed is always listed as a factor, throw a little booze ontop and we've got a classic recreational vehicle death. Tell me about how "they" skew numbers for their benefit, at least with cars, there's more of them cause they're used for everyday needs. Snowmobilers are constantly bitchslapped, they are as strong as car owners... WI is looking at 24/7 55MPH limit... Most machines will crack a c-note in 6-8 seconds.

Like I said, corrolary does not equal causality. Speed gets listed as a factor, but these "factors" are not necessarily the cause of the accident. These associations get lost when it comes to compiling statistics. Like I said with NHTSA. When you compile a report to do statistics gathering, and you look up accidents where "speed" was a factor, accidents will popup where "speed" was a factor, but the cause was actually running a stop sign/drunk driving/etc. All of the "factors" stated in the accident report, can be used to cross-reference and lookup the accident at statistics gathering time.

There were many articles talking about this.

WI is looking at 24/7 55MPH limit... Most machines will crack a c-note in 6-8 seconds.
I still wonder why 55mph. Who decided 55mph is a "safe" speed. Why is it safer than say 65? People cried that the death rates would go up when speed limits go up, but lo-and-behold the death rate actually went down when the speed limits were raised to 65 from 55.

Personally, I think the problem with drivers in this country is not that people drive too fast. The problem is lack of driver education. People almost view driving as a god-given right in this country. If tightened down our licensing program like many other countries do, perhaps be wouldn't have so many accidents.
