In perspective (to the class), it seems that the 2004 TL beat cars that are a few years old now: 2001 C-class, 2002 IS300, 2002 ES300, 2000 3-series, 2002 Saab, 2001 Volvo.

IMO, the TL should beat them in safety.

Has there been any reports for the side impact crash tests yet? I know that the front crash test received 5 stars, but they were still waiting on testing the side and rollover scores. Anyone know any news on this?

So what, it is still number 1. I'll be the G35 will score low due to the bumper issue...

Bumpers are not a safety issue they are an insurance factor. The G was rated "good" but not as good. Seems to be the general issue of the G vs TL, very good but always comes second!

Are these results based on safety or cost of repair? One of those organizations is based on how much damage/cost to repair and the other one is done based on bodily injury to crash-test-dummies. Anyone know which one this organization tests?

The test he's referring to is the one they show on Dateline every so often, which measures probable bodily injury to crash test dummies in a frontal offset collision at 40mpg. The test is performed by the National Institute for Highway Safety.

If the drooping headliner doesn't decapitate you in a crash, that is.

Seriously, this is the kind of thread some of these "won't buy a TL, too many problems" people need to see. Those of us who have driven Honda/Acura products over the years know that safety is one of the manufacturer's strongest points. I'd rather have a rattle in the console than in my head after a crash.

Last month when I told GEICO I bought my TL I asked them if my rates will go down once the crash test results were in. This car sure is expensive to insure! They said it was possible, and I should discuss when my policy was up for renewal to see if my rate will be adjusted.

Dont read into that too much. Most educated car buyers know that quality issues (in general) tend to occur in first production year cars. The rattle thing should be gone by the time the 2k5 TL hits showrooms. $.02

That's why I bought my two boys a 2001' and 2003' Honda Civic EX. It was Consumer Reports # 1 rated car in its class and the Insurance Institutes safest car in it's class. ( the EX came with front side airbags )

Matter of fact, I had to run an errand (massage therapy ) I took the 2003' Civic. Being that I want to order the 2005'TL and my old partner wants my 95' Mint Maxima. I'm trying not to put more miles on the Max.

Volvo's safety rep has taken a hit in recent years, no? Not that they've become unsafe by any means, but some other manufacturers have caught up to them.

And they were caught fixing the test results at one time. ( on their commercials ) This was the stacking of Volvos on top of each other without the roofs collapsing. They admitted to re-enforcing the roofs for the TV commercials.

To the best of my knowlege, they do well in the crash tests, but usually never #1 in it's class. Expensive car to own and fix too.
