The reason the TL-S lost was that it hit a brick wall, meaning 4th gear, it was pulling hard until he shifted, so i am guessing that was to 4th gear. Should have just let off at the 4th gear shift and called it a day

I hate 4th gear in our cars. Is there anything we can do? I did a couple pulls with a honda accord hybrid the other day, and made him look foolish from a dog to the top of 3rd, but in a higher speed race, it took every letter of comptech for me to even stick with him in 4th.

 

spray some nitrous in 4th.....or install a manual. those are your best options. i don't even think the supercharger helps 4th gear acceleration much, but i could be wrong.

Is fourth gear in the 3G TL better or would it lose to that Tiburon just like the tl-s?

 

3G TL would whip that Tiburon, 5AT or 6MT..

 

when I was stock I could beat stock auto 3g TL's, a stock auto 3g TL would have the same fate I'm afraid.

As you can see, there are only minor differences in gear ratios. It's still going to have the same 4th gear issue.

I know my friend with a chipped 1.8T GTI has trouble keeping up with new TL's.. dunno if he keeps messing with 6MT's or not though. Or his car is just slow in general.

Not a stock Hyundai POS though, this was modded. From a dig up to 4th gear we would destroy that car with those mods, don't be disappointed. Look at it this way, the TL isn't supposed to be Acura's performance car its a luxury car with some balls, the Tiburon is supposed to be Hyundai's performance car , and that's a joke IMO

 

As you can see he had CAI/H/E and the tl had at least I/E by the sound..... its fucked up right.......that dude's hyundai is sick he got another vid with stage 3 S/C racing a wrx with 11 pounds of boost. And guess what....he beat the shit out of that wrx. remeber those little cars get more gains out of mods than a tl IMO!

 

Ya that's true those small cars do get more power from the mods. So if it wasn't modded then the TL would definately take it even from 4th gear up, right?

 

yeah watch out 4th gear. Max out on 3rd as much as possible if you EVER have to race in 5AT.

Haha. After watching that video over and over again and notice its in south florida I think that TL belongs to "Nitrous" on this board. I notice the gold 19" and the TL is blue. His car also sounds like the one in the video.

11lbs of boost isn't anything for an SRT..I'm running 16lbs with just a wastegate mod and a Injen SRI. PCM starts pulling timing at 18lbs or more..until you start staging. There are some Stage 3's running 20lbs of boost making over 400hp and 400lbs of torque at the wheels.

I raced my stock 01' TLp against my friends stock 04 Tiburon GT V6 and ripped him a new one. That car is slow and incredibly heavy for a "sports car". It's too damn bulky and doesn't handle well at all. A stock Tiburon against a stock TL, no question TL would take it.

 

this would be a perfect situation to be like "i have 210 hsp". and after u win the race be like. "at the wheels". lol, i so wanna do that!

 

someone does not know how to race. Our (tl-s) might have a slightly tall fourth gear, however, when you hit 130 mph in 4th at WOT, watch your face in the rear view mirror and you'll see an ear to ear grin for sure. when third tops out at 105-110 mph, you can get a very respectable fourth gear reve range. If you whimp out third at under 100 mph, you'll feel like the engine just dropped out of the bay and was replaced by gerbils.

On a side note: IF YOU ARE GOING TO VIDEO THE EVENT AND YOU ARE SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, DON'T BLOW THE OPPORTUNITY AND GET SOME ACCEPTABLE FOOTAGE. this guy answers the question: if you give 1000 monkeys 1000 video cameras, will any footage be useable?

maybe the guy shifted into 4th gear too soon? even gutted i dont see how a tiburon could do that... unless the mods really freed up a lot of power (i dont know much about tiburons other than they're usually slow )

 

I hear ya...I've got 240 whp and I would love to roll with that Tib. Not saying that I would be able to take him with no problems but I've raced an SRT and pulled on it through 2nd and 3rd and cut it off at about 110. I'm not willing to advertise my weak spot(4th gear) and they probably don't know about 4th gear sucking in our car...so I'm not gonna tell them.

 

I was thinking the same thing. Haven't had a high speed ride in quite some time, wish there were some safe road to do that on out here in the North East.
