TL-S vs STS

Firend of mine at work has got a 96 Caddy Seville STS. I looked up its specs and it looks like its got 300hp and runs a 14.7 in the quarter. He also said something about having the HO motor and that he also has cams. I think the cam part is a lie tho. I got a 03 TL-S, should I take this race?

Yeah, I don't know much about Caddy's but I do know they're heavy...from a dig, I bet you'd give him a good run...
...just make sure to take your audio system out if you race - that's heavy sh!t

You don't have a chance unless you have some boltons and lose the stereo.

That's not true.

Road tests from the period suggest very similar performance numbers and the two cars have virtually identical power to weigh ratios, although the Caddy was VERY over-rated (they put roughly 212 HP down to the ground, which I can prove if required to do so.)

My money would be on the TL, especially since the Caddy is an older car and is probably out of tune and down on power.

Just lose the radio, make sure you are low on gas when you are about to race. Do it from a Dig and you will have a victory even if its half a length.

02/03 TL-S = 14.8@96mph, and sts is 14.7? Well.....it must be a pretty close race if both are stock. In other words, it really depends on skills, mods, etc.

The Northstar is a fairly competent if not powerful motor but, in the case of the STS it has to pull 2 tons of car. So honestly, I think a 14.7 might be a little optimistic but for certain. IMHO, a well driven TL-S should be able to take care of business here.

Definantly take the race. It will be close thats for sure. I have driven the STS many times and that car screams off the line. The only way you might lose is from a dig. Your best bet is a roll. Those caddys have lots of torque but only a 4AT.

I never even considered that an STS would be a performer. Really because of the weight. Anyway, I'm interested to see how this turns out. Really, I can't see you losing.

Thats why I said that he would probobly lose from a dig. From a roll you would have faired much better. 1st and 2nd gear they fly but 3rd isn't there best gear. I have a buddy that used to have one and that thing just flew off the line! So much torque steer!!
