TL-S tranny programming question
TL-S tranny programming question
Hi guys,
I recently bought a 07 TL-S with 18k miles on it. I have had it for about 850 miles now. While all is generally well I do have a few questions for TL-S owners. First off the handling qualities of this car is very good and gets as good as a FWD car can get. I am very happy with that. Acceleration is pretty good, I am coming off of a maxima so the acceleration doesnt really "wow" me but it is good nonetheless. It has been rattle free so far, I dynamatted the whole trunk and rear deck lid. Now coming to the point, I am a liitle unhappy with the gearing of this AT. Between 55-75mph when I am cruising in 5th with RPMs around 1800-2000, there is a torque converter clutter, meaning a subtle vibration through the drivetrain. Almost like it would start lugging if it were a manual. I can easily accelerate out of this which makes me believe this is more the gearing program than an actual hardware issue. I am sure they did this to improve fuel economy but it makes for an unpleasant trait to an otherwise fabulous machine. I would love to hear your experiences with both TL and TL-S. On second thoughts, may be, it is just the TL-S tranny that is programmed this way because of the fuel conservation in a bigger engine. Laslty, I hope this is not a one off issue with my trans( which I dont think it is as I felt it in 60% of the crs that I tested).

The computer adapts by learning how you drive. Meaning if you like to punch it everywhere you car will respond different than someone who drives regular. Maybe its memory is from the previous owner. In order to reset this just disconnect the battery for 10 minutes. See if that fixes your issues. I have not had any issues with the tranny or motor but maybe some of the more knowledgeable guys will chime in.
Yeah, it is not a big deal but it is somewhat intrusive. I fear if it will become a problem down the lane. The comment on the previous owner is interesting. Before resetting the trip computer it had an avergae MPH of 21 over several hundred hours. This could only mean the person did a lot of city driving or drove really slow on the freeway. May be I should reset the ECU. But from past experience this will not be cured by resetting the ECU. More comments would reaaly help.
Rick.

My TL is an 04 auto, which has a different trans than yours, but remember with the rpms being 1800 thats because your in a very high over drive band in 5th also with the touque converter locking up is going to drop the RPM somemore. As far as any vibration in the driveline, I know Acura released a bulleton on that a while back with a fix. I know if was for 04-06 TL's, maybe the fix might work on 07-08's as well. If anyone knows of the bulleton I'm talking about, please post a link to it. You can always reset the computer to learn your driving habits. Don't know if that will help mpg though. Good luck.
