TL-S Rare?
I noticed our TL type s is really rare. You see the base TL, G35, BMW 3 series and Lexus Is pretty much everywhere you go but seeing TL type S is like seeing porsche carrera. I reside in NY and i see one or two TL type s maybe once a week if i'm lucky. At most twice a week. Why is that? But i'm glad that our TL-S is rare. I like the fact that it stands out.
I don't know if I'd say "rare", but they are less common.
Kinda of like the BMW 335i - lots of other bimmers out there, but not so many 335i's.
I've heard/read that only about 10% of the 2007/2008 TL's produced are Type-S. Don't know if that's true or just unfounded internet rumor.

Another reason to own a TypeS. It is the kind of a car that when someone drive by you will take a second look. If you see an IS or G35, they are just too common and you really don't bother to look.
In the Chicagoland suburbs...I've seen 2 over the last year. I recently traded in my 04 TL for an 08 Type S; love the TL's. Always looking at other cars (carefully of course), and there are a boat-load of TL's cause they're a great car. However, Type S's seem really rare in the area.
FYI---swapped my 04 TL at McGrath Acura in Westmont...
1) Got $20k for my 04 Non-Navi with 22,000 miles; they're trying to sell it (along with many other TL's) at $21,911
2) got my brand-spanking new 08 Type S for $35k with a 70k miles 0 deductible warranty thrown in...PLUS 2.9% financing for 5 years!!!
It was just a no-brainer to me; went in for an oil change on the old and 4 days later had the new car. Seems like Acura is willing to wheel-and-deal to unload inventory with the new models coming out soon.

I live in Los Angeles and the base TL and IS250 are pretty common. The TL-S and IS350 are not as common, but for the price of a TL-S, I think people would rather get a RWD car and it would probably be an IS350 or 335i. And in that case, this makes the TL-S rare IMO.

What is rare however (besides the Alex Zarnardi NSX) is the Legend 4-door GS with the 230HP motor, 6 speed manual and 2 piston front brakes. I've only ever seen a couple on the street.
