I need to drive his Camry. I think he bases it off a review that claimed the Camry could do 0-60 in 6.2 sec whereas the 05 TL Auto was clocked at 6.7...

He did drive my car and said hands down the TL-S handles much better. No surprises there.

No one has mentioned Four-Play doing 149 on the German Autobahn before the governor slowed the car down.

Top Speed in the AUTO TL-S is an academic question/curiosity.

There is conflicting informaiton about what the limiter is set to. It would be nice to know, once and for all, what that limiter is actully set to. Other than anecdotal evidence, there is no proof that the limiter on the TL-S will allow more than ~130 - 135 mph.

It has nothing to do with what you do day-to-day or if you ever use it - it's a technical question.

I would test it but I can't afford the points on my license if I get busted A cop told me if I get 1 more ticket in the next year, I lose my license for a month. The next day I went out and bought a Radar detector

People... I am not trying to brag nor am I trying to sound cool, but I know personally that my 5AT 2008 Type-S is electronically limited in the mid 130s. I've hit the limiter twice, both times alone and on deserted freeways.

It is general consensus that the 5AT Base TL, 6MT Base TL, and 6MT Type-S ALL are limited around the 150s, but the auto Type-S is not.

The car was pulling nicely, and then once it hit the limiter it wouldn't budge, even though it easily could have.

End of story, unless some 5at type-s's don't have the limiter and others do.

Geez, how difficult would it have been for Acura to delete the rev-limiter on the TL-S, when it was, at that time, their highest performing car in the line-up??

I don't get what they're thinking sometimes.

Thanks

To anyone, is there even a way to get rid of the limiter?

I think you mean the speed governor. The rev limiter is a good idea to have!

I think we all have it in our mind that one day we may be fleeing a cop or a bad guy, or even a T-1000 Smokey & The Bandit style and don't like the fact that our supposed sport sedan is limited to 130mph. I can almost hit that speed in my wifes Sienna

I could hit 130-140 in my Civic hatch with a D series in it, past 100 it took a while but could reach the speed on a stretch.

Actually, I quite like driving right at the legal speed limit in my 451 horsepower grocery getter. My wife usually rolls her eyes whenever I do that.

Most people who have cars that are 400+ HP and are street driven do drive the speed limit. It is just the fact that you have the blistering power on tap if needed.

Also, the cops would relish the chance to give you a speeding ticket, when more often than not they'd turn a blind eye to all the Civics and Preludes that are clearly going way too fast.

Can't be too careful, I guess. Sorry if this is off-topic.

Let's get back to the TL-S, a car I wish I had spent more time looking into last year. Maybe I should have bought that instead of the TSX.

Wow, I didn't know that. But I'd have to say, the TL-S looks a lot better (in my opinion) than any Camry ever could.

Not really. Took a few by quite a margin when I was stock. Since then, I don't waste my gas on those.

you know at first i was like maybe theres a difference between the 07 and 08s...a change in the speed governor wouldn't be hard, but then i realized you had an 08 as well so there goes that theory.

in any case like bearcat said its a technical question that creates a lot of curiosity. where's an acura engineer when we need one?

Nope! The 6 speed is limited to 150ish the type-S auto is 134mph.

Its real easy to figure out....the Type-S 5AT is limited to 130mph & change. Your speedo in the movie never went much beyond the 130mph mark because the speedo reading generated in the computer is what kicks in the limiter.

Since your car does not have an inertial guidance system in the computer has no idea it is being spoofed by oversized tires. When the computer "sees" 130mph stick a fork in it - its done

With undersized tires you most likely would have gotten more revs at 130mph but it still would have stopped accelerating at 130mph indicated.

As for those guys who claim to have been at 150mph in a Type-S 5AT all they need to do is what you did show the tape. Lacking that, money talks BS walks.
