TL-S...Paint protection film

I'm interested in getting PPF or clear bra as they call it for my bumper, hood and mirrors. I was quoted $800 (including install) for 3M RoadBlock film...does this sound like a good price ? and what paint protection film brand do you guys use / recommend ?

I had a local installer quote $500 for the 3M film on the hood, bumper, headlights & foglights for a 2007 TL-S.
He did my wife's '06 Pilot and did a great job. It's been on for almost a year and has done a great job protecting from stone chips. I would highly recommend installing as soon as you get your vehicle.

There are only a few manufacturers of PPF. 3M, Llumar, Venture Shield, StonGard, Clearshield and Avery. Most of films are made from urethane, usually 8MM thick and some (3M & Venture Shield) offer different thicknesses. 3M is the only one that has a layer of clearcoat and probably the most popular. The majority of 3rd party vendors (Rockblocker, Xpel & Clearmask) offer the 3M film in pre-cut kits. As far as installation cost, it will vary. I've seen them as low as $450 and as high as $1200. Here are a few other threads you can read. Many other threads regarding PPF can be found using the search function.

I have the Xpel kit on my TL with some custom free hand pieces for the front fenders and rear lower quarters right by the rear door/lower wheel arches and the paint protection will have been installed 3yrs next week tues, the paint protection still looks the same from when Lorenzo did the install 3yrs ago. If you have any ?s, I am one of his reps.......so I can give you a quote on paint protection and tint. Checkout the Lorenzo gallery at:www.lorenzotint.com.

That'd be great if you could give me a seperate quote for the tint (all around and a quote for just the back half) and a seperate quote for the PPF on the bumper, hood, fenders, lights and mirrors.

I had the 3M film done a month ago, $600 for hood, bumper, mirrors and lights. I am very pleased. My main concern was stonechips on WDP. 5th or 6th WDP (or close) that I've had and have always wanted to do it, this time I did it BEFORE the 1st stone chip. Stone chips are awful here.

Take it from someone with experience. Buy the 3M material from the SAME person that does the installation. I don't know where you are in NJ, but here's the guy who did my 3M paint protection film as well as other 3M protective mouldings like door edges, rear bumper(pictured), fender well trims, etc. He also does this work for most of the new car dealers in the Bronx and Westchester.

Get a clearbra. One of the best things you can buy for your car...that's if you care about the cars appearanace.
I had my TL since Aug 05 (damn time is going by fast) and I did not drive my car off the lot UNTIL they installed the clearbra on my car.
As for dirt buildup, it's almost 2 years. I have no dirt buildup. I maintain my cars apperance and there's no yellowing. I'm glad I made this "option" a must get. I have a few tiny marks on the bumper, but I rather have it on the film rather than the paint surface. Go figure... you drive on highway, at least 100% of the time you'll receive something on your hood/bumper.
I paid $550 at my dealership.

OH when dirt or wax builds up on the paint, I get a tooth brush and scrub it off.
No sweat, only takes a few mins.
Like I said, I rather have a plastic film covering my paint rather than having ugly stone chips on my hood/ bumper.

I'm looking to get it done some time VERY soon...I've got a quote for $800 from these guys http://www.myautobahnd.com/aboutUs.aspx (for hood, mirrors, fenders & bumper)
They use Avery Graphic film, they used to use 3M but felt it was too thick and the seams were very very noticible
What do you guys think ?

If you own a hairdryer and exacto knife buy the kit of 3m off ebay and diy for 60 bucks

I have it on my '07 TL-S and it's great...you can barely see it. It covers the the entire front end. I added the headlight and foglight protectors from X-Pel ($40). They are much thicker than the the 3M body plastic. On long trips though I still use a Colgan bra on the front. So after over $960 worth of protection ($800 + 40 + 120 (Colgan bra)), what happens?....rock chip in the windshield, and only 500 miles on the car. You just can't win...I blame the rock problems on all the SUVs with their huge tires picking up rocks and throwing them at cars behind when the rubber heats up enough to let the rocks go.

I have the 3M products on my 05 S2000 and on the 07 TLS - this was the first thing I had done to both cars and I'm happy with looks and protection. My installer for the S2000 suggest a spray on wax for the film and that works well. I use Griot's Spray on Wax each time I wash the car for a little bit more protection. Since I was the cars often there is no dirt build-up.

That's the company that installed my clearbra at my dealership. It sounds steep, but I guess it all varies on where you live. I have my hood, side mirrors, fenders and bumper all for about $600 installed.
As a matter of fact, I'm getting an estimate on how much it would cost to cover my whole hood tomorrow.
Here is a pic of my clear bra on the hood and bumper...
