TL-S Owners: How often do you use your sportshifter?

Just curious how often is everyone using the sports shifter in the TL-S? I have yet to use it in my car.

Read owner manual for speed limits on each gear and play with it on a back road
Great for mountain fun or quick accell onto freeway
Dont use it as a brake to slow the car- that wears on trans like any car would
Brakes are cheap in compare!

I live in a very hilly area so I use mine to shift to a lower gear to slow the car, rather than using the brakes all the time and causing premature wear on them.

I use mine every now and then. I don't think the system is all that quick. The Audi DSG system is much better, and the BMW SMG system is terrible.
The Audi system is really the way a semi-automatic should be. BMW is coming out with a similar system soon. The Acura is really just a shift lever on the steering wheel, not a quick shifting alternative to the base auto tranny.

compare brake pad replacement cost with wearig out your trans with useless shifting!
Downshift to be in the powerband for exiting the corner
Use brakes to slow the car!

^^, yeah. At least that much. Maybe a tad more, but not much.

However, SWMBO never uses it and it's her daily driver.

I usually put mine in manual when I'm on the highway running the cruise. It seems that I know when to downshift on the big hills better then the car.

Cool Old habits die hard? 03 vs. 07

I used it a fair bit on moderately congested commuter highways in my 03 but the shifter on that car could be dropped down into the 1-4 range to lock out 5th but the shifter doesn't work the same way on my new 07 TLS (the bottom of the shifter gate seems to drop it right down to the lowest gear below redline) so I am using the manual position more to hold it in 4th on the highway when necessary.

I still reach for the stick even though I have the new paddle shifters.

well you are comparing apples to orange.

Acura's sportshift is still an AT tranny which allows the user to override the gear selection, while DSG is more of a MT based design using double-clutch gear box.
Clutch vs TC

So True! I had an A3 with DSG and that thing was amazinnggg. The shifts were so quick, quicker than manual.

Oh and I rarely use my SS because the ECU does it better for me lol , I just use it when Im cruising on the highway to keep it in 5th gear and prevent me from downshifting, wasting gas, and wanting to blow past every driver.
