TL-S brake replacement - some questions

Hey folks,

I have a '07 TL-S with 35k on them. Time for new breaks. Some questions if I may:

How do I know if I need new rotors or if they can be turned? Is there a certain amount of width they should have if I put calipers on them?

If I need new rotors, which ones to you recommend?

Are the rotors the same for both the front and the back?

Which pads do you recommend for the front? For the back?

Thanks!

1. Its recommended not to turn them but I did on mine. They are sitting in the garage and yes there is a certain spec but I do not recall it at this second.

2. Rotors depend on what you are looking for.

3. No the front and back are not the same.

4. Pads again depend on what your looking for. STock is not a bad pad other than the dusting.

1. If you've never resurfaced them, you can go ahead and do it. I wouldn't do it more than once, but you could probably get away with resurfacing the rotors twice.

2. This depends on how much money you want to spend, and what type of performance you're looking for.

3. Rotors are different front and back.

4. If you stay with the stock rotors, stay with the stock pads.

the minimum allowed rotor thickness is stamped right on the center hub of every rotor made..its will say Min Thick 25MM or similar (as measured with calipers)

there needs to be plenty of thickness of rotor left after refinishing, or weak performance results.
same for pads- they will work down to min allowed thickness but dont expect it to stop or recover from use as well as it used to

Thanks for this information. What rotors are people getting if they do need to replace? Just stock? Something else?

Thanks!

most dump the OE rotors and go aftermarket with matched pads
racingbrake and rotora are popular choices for better performance

If you have been happy with the brakes and they meet your needs- you have brembo fronts right? stay with them,,,several dealers are sponsors here and offer discounts

note for those with brake dust problems- pads make dust as they wear from use- its normal
to reduce `adhesion to the rims`- wash the rims and apply 2-3 coat SYNTHETIC car wax.
very slippery stuff and 100 degree higher melt point than carnuba car wax
